Is Obamacare a historic blunder or merely an election-year albatross?

Pretty spot on analysis of Obamacare and it's effect on Obama's re-election prospects.

Waiting on the Supremes - John Fund - National Review Online
We’re all waiting to see if Obamacare will be spared, gutted, or tossed into the ash heap of history by the Supreme Court on Thursday. In a new Purple Strategies survey of former Supreme Court clerks and attorneys who have argued before the Court, 57 percent believe the individual mandate, the heart of the law, will die.

But if Obamacare vanishes or the individual mandate is eliminated, look for Democrats to panic.
It’s never good if a president’s central domestic-policy achievement is trashed months before an election, and in this case it could be politically fatal.
In retrospect, it’s clear that Obama’s insistence on ramming through his 2,700-page Rube Goldberg legislative monstrosity in the dead of night seriously damaged the post-partisan brand he ran on in 2008. Obamacare clearly wasn’t the “hope and change” the candidate had promised.

Frank Bruni, a liberal New York Times columnist, spoke for a lot of liberals I know this week when he described Obama’s hapless position as a leader: “He’s beholden to lawmakers’ whims, buffeted by global winds, as much a spectator as an agent of the most important developments around him. . . . At times he looks dazed, and flails. To focus his economic message, he gave an unfocused 54-minute speech on the apparent theory that the more sentences in the mix, the greater the odds of a keeper.”

If Obamacare is tossed aside in whole or in part by the Supreme Court tomorrow, history will view the bill as one of the most remarkable blunders made by any president — both in terms of policy and politics. Even if it is upheld, Obama will have to carry it as an albatross into the fall campaign knowing that the majority of likely voters want it repealed, and they can accomplish that goal in only one way: removing him from office.

Heard during a discussion between Barack Obama and elected Congressional Representatives in the Democratic caucus discussing tactics to gain approval of Obamacare.
"Whats to prevent an electoral disaster similar to that which occurred following HillaryCare?"
"You have ME!"

Willard passed his romneycare in MA. and the GOP have been calling for the individual mandate for years. They are just throwing a pissy fit because Obama was able to get it passed and not them.

No one's going to "panic" if only the Mandate goes down, except the HMOs. That was their tidbit for complying with all the regulations.

But it didn't, doesn't and if kept..won't have any teeth.

If you don't get healthcare..there is a small tax penalty. Which, get this, the IRS can't come after you for..

So it's almost done as a "Code of honor" thing.

Number one, RomneyCare is a state issue, not a federal issue, big difference. Number two, never for it.
Number three, if what you are claiming is true, then why under Bush was it not passed, because all the Democrats would have voted for it. If your scenario is true Dems were against it before they were for it and the only reason they changed was because of the President in power.

All that speculation and nothing about the partisan nature of a Supreme Court decision striking it down, if it is struck down it will be so easy to blame it entirely on republicans murdering a populist initiative on behalf of powerful special interests, it has the virtue of being true. The aftermath of republicans getting what they want on this may be more than they bargained for but they have never been people who think about consequences.

The fallacy is that you think that obamacare is a populist initiative when the truth is, it's despised by a huge majority of people. That's like obama telling that huge lie when he said that the bill was passed by a strong majority. It wasn't and everyone knows it.

Obamacare is really nothing more than a ruse to dictate businesses and the economy in general....

It's really nothing more than a door to socialism - er to redistribute wealth in a fascist fashion.

Wait until you're paying a $2.00 tax on a .99 cent cheeseburger. They already do that shit with cigarettes. 75% of the price of cigarettes are taxes.

Progressives hate capitalism and freedom. They want to be told what to do and they want others property. They will achieve their redistributive goals via Obamacare. They will destroy capitalism and redistribute wealth.

Who gives a fuck what MA did as a state... Conservatives have stood against the GOP for years and will continue to stand against unconstitutional government run hc... any freedom loving citizen should have a 'pissy' fit that Obamalama shoved that unholy piece of crap down the throats of Americans and should throw a 'pissy' fit if the REPs try anything even remotely similar

The sad thing is, people are actually this dumb to believe this shit.
This is your brain on fox news ladies and gentlemen.

Hope its a fiasco I don't think the mandate has a prayer but if I'm wrong we better have a super majority to repeal the funding? Eh welcome to USSA- united socialist states of america if it passes. In 15 years they will be putting people to sleep how nice.

The GOP sure didn't care about their GOP/tea party masters voting almost unanimously for renewing the huge government, anti-freedom and anti-constitution patriot act, as well as the huge government and anti-freedom NDAA bill.

Though that's how the GOP is, pretend to be for less government and pro-constitution, but in reality are for the complete opposite.

Their obedient sheep will keep punching (R) on election day, so the GOP masters don't care.

Look at cigarettes......

"Cigarettes are bad for you hence we can tax the fuck out of them"

"Sugary drinks are bad for you so lets ban them or limit their size"

"Some kids are fat asses so lets ban happy meal toys"

Oh you dumb motherfuckers have set plenty of precedence to make my claims.

When you're paying for your fat neighbors health care YOUR DUMB TYRANNICAL ASS WILL SUPPORT A $2.00 TAX ON CHEESEBURGERS....

You leftists are fascist fucks......

I'm 3 steps ahead of whats going on with this Obamacare bullshit and it's real intent...

You joke but that is exactly it. Look for an over-broad ruling that allows many other kinds of federal mandates to be struck down.

I suppose it's all fine now since a progressive renewed it 3 times.....
