Some people do not have the mental or emotional capacity to protect themselves; they want to force this inadequacy on others .
Some people want the state to have a monopoly on force and know this cannot happen while the people remain armed
Some people are hoplophobes and believe their fear of inanimate objects justifies reducing the rights of others
