I was hanging out at the yahoo boards under the news articles when i read the news about Howard Stern basically being fired and losing alot of airtime across the nation. It was an amazing argument. The Bush haters were yelling at how there is some big Republican conspiracy to take him off the air because he is Anti Bush. This despite the fact that he is losing raitings and losing Clear Channel nearly 2 million a year in fines for his program. (Probably in part because he is competing with Glenn Beck)

I think the funniest thing i saw about it was that people were yelling that if we dont like Howard Stern we just turn him off. Yet these people havent figured out is that is what we have been doing! That is why his ratings are low and that is why he is off the area because the people are choosing not to listen to him.

Anyway I figured this would be an interesting topic to bring up since it covers the topics of censorship vs the first ammendment and the market of ideas. Why is conservative talk so popular? Why is it beating out Shows like Stern? Any thoughts?

Howard Stern fired because he is anti Bush?
Howard Stern I need to remind these people has been fired from almost every radio talk show position he has held since his NBC days in New York.
I lived in New York back then and remember how vulgar he was then. Nothing has changed with him over the years, he hasn't moved on to anything new and exciting. He was a big deal then and continued on a rollar coaster with the same old jokes and vulgar talk.
I tuned him out then just as I have tuned him out now well over twenty years later.

Howards jokes and show conversations have been based on woman and men who are willing to degrade themselves before him and his audience. So what has changed over the years? Howard was fired again. Big deal.

Of course we can blame it on everyone else but Howard himself, heaven forbid anyone should take responsibilty for themselves. People are fired everyday in this country for various reasons, myself included. People are fired for acts they did not commit.

To those who again complain and find the most obsurd reasons to name call on Bush I advise to get on with your life. I know there is more out there for you than this.

As far as Howard? He will probibly and finally fade away into our memories.

From what I've read thus far this isn't as bad for Howard as everyone is making it out to be.

Howard wasn't fired. He was suspended by Clear Channel and this has only affected 6 of his stations (Rochester, Orlando, Miami, San Diego, Pittsburgh and Louisville).

He is mainly heard as a part of Infinity Broadcasting.

Many months ago, Howard has talked about leaving, he had many years and knew it was time to go. I don't think he got fired, this was all planned. I liked him, but hated him too, couldn't deal with the wishing of those to suffer a cancer crap.

Only banned from 6 stations huh? Well thats news to me. The way the people on the message board were reacting it was like the end of free speech in America. The article didnt really say how many stations he was losing. just that he was refusing quite a few.

I also think it was interesting that the same people who were whining about Howard losing his popularity were the same ones whining that Rush Limbaugh should be taken off the air.

Conservative talk radio is so popular because it's as Rush says " on the cutting edge of societal evolution." He is correct. Howard Stern's claim to fame is being on the cutting edge of public shame. Stern and his dysfuntional coterie of gutter humor hooligans are about as exciting as spackle. Republican conspiracy? Hardly.
Bush has enough on his plate without micromanaging the fcc about Howard Stern.

LOL..
Ditto heads can be such desperate followers.

Rush claimed that Donovan McNabb was an overrated QB and that media was jumping on his band wagon because McNabb is black. He said that in the midst of the Eagles losing their first 2 games (0-2) in the season.

For the early part of the 2003 season, McNabb looked not bad, but horrible. On the other hand, this does not discount some of the sensational play that McNabb demonstrated for the success of the Eagles for the previous 2 years, which got them to the conference finals. Obviously, football is a team game, where success is truly measured by the efforts of the whole. Given that, there have been numerous games where McNabb practically carried the team on his shoulders. For example, when their team had running back issues, McNabb filled the void by putting up rushing yards that rivalled running backs in the league. Without that additional run threat, the Eagles would've been too one dimensional. He did this while still being a high quality passer, as well.

Even with an 0-2 start, the Eagles, led by McNabb put forth an amazing win streak, which put them at the top of the whole NFC!!

Some short sighted people might make the argument that yeah he got them to the conference finals, but then he lost.

Does that mean Dan Marino sucks and is overrated, since he never won a Super Bowl? Does that mean Peyton Manning and Steve McNair were overrated as well, since they lost in the playoffs? Does that mean Elway was a failed quarterback, except for the fact that he benefitted from outstanding rushing stats from Terrel Davis for the last 2 years of Elway's career?

Obviously, winning the Super Bowl is the main goal. But, at the beginning of the season, if you asked any team in the league that if you made it to the Conference Final game, would you consider that to be a successful season... every team would say yes.

Then, when McNabb got back on track and winning games and became successful again. As is so typical of Rush, instead of admitting that he was flat out wrong, he tried to spin it and say, McNabb's newfound success must be due to his idiotic, racial based, criticism. And the ditto heads follow suit.

Get real, knucklehead!

His season stats were average. His career stats are average AT BEST. Year in and year out he finishes in the middle of the pack. His career stats are equivalent to that of Kordell Stewart or Jon Kitna. He is an AVERAGE QB on a good team.

His career QB rating is 79.3 - AVERAGE
Career completion percentage - 57% - AVERAGE
Average passing yds per game - 186 - AVERAGE
Yards per attempt - 6.2 - AVERAGE
Average rushing per game - 32 - AVERAGE

He doesn't even make up for it with wins!

15 QB's finished with a higher rating than him this year. A couple of the names:
Trent Green
Jake Plummer
Aaron Brooks
Jon Kitna
Matt Hasselbeck

13 QB's finished with more passing yards than him
18 QB's finished with a better completion percentage
18 QB's finished with more yards per game average

I'm sure you'll say "what about his rushing yards". First off, he's a QB, not a RB. Secondly, he was 5th best in the NFL as a rushing QB.

What's the most important thing in the NFL? Scoring touchdowns!

16 QB's threw for more TD's than Donovan and 7 ran for more.

Face the facts, DONOVAN IS AN AVERAGE QB AT BEST, YEAR IN AND YEAR OUT!

Give it up, you'll lose this one badly.

Donovan's best year rushing was in 2000 when he rushed for 629 yards, hardly comparable to a RB. He fumbled the ball 7 times that year and finished with an abysmal QB rating of 77.8 and a 58% completion percentage.

Not RB numbers and FAR from a "high quality" passer. I'd say it was pretty AVERAGE.

S.F. 49ers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys the 3 most successful franchises in the modern history of the NFL. The only way I measure QB'S is how many rings they are wearing. Donovan McNabb=0
Dan Marino=0
Lets talk Joe Montana, Steve Young, Terry Bradshaw, Roger Staubach, Troy Aikman, John Elway.
Lone to answer your question no it doesn't mean these other QB'S suck they just don't or didn't have what it takes to be a winner. The 49ers were never a great defensive team but they had QB'S who knew how to get the ball in the end zone which is the name of the game just ask the Baltimore Ravens.

Does this mean there is not going to be the Stern show on E and the endless parade of hot porn chicks?

I wouldn't necessarily say you need to win a SB in order to be considered an "elite" QB, but at least be a consistently good QB. I think Dan Marino is perhaps the best QB that ever played the game. Warren Moon had outstanding numbers every year he played. John Elway always put up good numbers regardless of how good his team was.

Looking over McNabb's career, I can't say he had one season with "elite" numbers. He never made it to the Bowl. He has choked in big games. What exactly is it that makes people think he is so great?

Yes, he's a good QB, and deserves to be in the NFL. But I agree with Limbaugh's original comments, he is just an average QB but has received so much notoriety because he is a black QB.

I believe he'll be fine with Infinity and on E as well. I do believe Clear Channel is going to end up dropping him entirely.

Well I would say that Marino was a good QB but best ever, no. You have to look a t his record in big games and i'd be willing to put a friendly wager that its below .500 and he had mostly good teams that scored buku points. All I can think about is the SB where my Niners put it on his Dolphins something like 55-14 although I may be shorting the Dolphins some points still thats embarrasing lol. I'm in total agreement with you on McNabb but why did the press fawn all over your guys stiff Maddox, he's white and he sucks lol.

Take it easy on me with your reply lol

Marino hold just about every QB record in the NFL. I agree it would have solidified his status as elite had he won the big games, but I wouldn't lay that entirely on his shoulders. He was the kind of player that could carry a team throughout the season. The playoffs and championship games are another story. You need a complete team effort to win the big games. The NFL is riddled with star players on shit teams. They have great seasons and sometimes win games almost single handedly but they won't win you a championship. Every SB champion that I can think of had great TEAMS, not just one or 2 stars.

As for Maddox, he's just another average QB. His notoriety came about as a result of his "career". Early in the NFL, then the Wordl League (or whatever the hell other league he was in) then retired to be an insurance salesman and then back to lead the Steelers to the playoffs. If it weren't for the weird circumstances his name would never of even been mentioned. (I'll still take him over Kordell any day of the week!)

No shit, Kordell Stewart has to be the biggest wash out ever in the NFL, he sucks so bad, well next to Todd "Marijuanovich" Marinovich hehehe. I still cannot figure why your Steelers we're so pitiful this year. Come on I need you guys to perform in that division so my most hated team the RAVENS don't go anywhere.

They were pitiful because their O line was non-existent and their DB's played like they were high. Maddox is average, but they have perhaps the best WR trio in the entire NFL. Bettis and Zeroue aren't a shabby tandem. Their LB's are outstanding. Their D line is good. Give up the longall all season and you're cooked. It also helps if your QB has longer than 2.2 seconds to get rid of the ball!

I don't know who I hate more, the Ravens or the Jaguars. Who's your team?

(maybe we should move this to the Sports section soon. I just want to make sure that knucklehead sees the stats and comes back down to reality)

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS FOR LIFE! You are right and which is what I was thinking, Plexigo and the other guy are awesome recievers, Bettis is a nice RB but half the time he was on the bench and not hurt seriously or at least we were told. You guys have same problem as Niners, DB'S, ours are undersized and can't deal with 6'3 220 lb recievers. Other than that we have a good team, hell we lost 5 games last year by less than 10 pts all together including 3 in OT or else we are in playoffs. Jesus where I live the people either root for Ravens or Deadskins, both of which are obnoxious as hell. Deadskins fans think that they are pretty much back in the big show since Joe Gibbs is back, stupid idiots.

Yes. I'm interested in what Lone Brain Cell has to say regarding the stats as well. He'll spew anything out of his mouth as long as it is anti-Republican, whether it be Bush or Rush, even if he has no clue what the hell he's talking about, which is the exact scenario in this case.

And as far as this:

which put them at the top of the whole NFC!!

That wasnt a difficult place to get to this past season. I wouldnt be too thrilled with that position. The entire NFC looked inconsistent this season and any average local high school football team had a fighting chance to beat them.

Bring back Opie & Anthony!

I have a feeling they're going to have a lot of trouble finding a station to pick them up after these recent FCC crackdowns. Howard got dropped in a few places and another guy, Bubba the Love Sponge (basically the Howard of the south) got fired completely after a $775,000 fine (largest in FCC history).

I really do hope O&A do come back, though, that was one of the only shows I heard that actually did original stuff and didn't just rehash the same old "hey, let's talk to a stripper! Hey, there's a midget and a retard, let's laugh at them!" bits. Admittedly, they did those too, just not as much. Also, as much as I hate to admit it, Jim Norton was very reliably funny on the show, much funnier than on Tough Crowd. I actually heard some of my favorite comedians (Brian Regan, Stephen Lynch, Jay Mohr, Frank Caliendo) on their show first.

Stern's been unfunny for years. I think my favorite bit on O&A ever was the infamous one where they trashed Howard right after his divorce, Anthony does a dead-on impression, and they had Howard crying his eyes out: "Allisooooooooon!!!" Of course, Howard went to their boss at Infinity and demanded they never use his name on the air again. He was always a crybaby, and I heard he's talking about quitting now because he got suspended in,what, six cities? Good riddance, I say.

As far as the republican conspiracy, that's stupid. I will say, though, that the FCC crackdowns are coming from Bush, and I think there's much better things we could be doing with our government's time and money than this.

Does this mean there is not going to be the Stern show on E and the endless parade of hot porn chicks?

Dude, welcome to the Internet. You can't throw a cyber-stone around here without hitting a hot porn chick (with unpixelated boobies, too).
