How would eliminating oil subsidies lower gas prices

The Oil companies are making $4 a gallon off us and you want to send them billions of dollars?

So last year, every gallon oil companies drilled, they could sell for $3. Now they can sell that same gallon for $4 and Republicans want to send them billions of dollars?

You obviously have a serious misunderstanding going on here. Oil companies make pennies on a gallon of gasoline sold at retail. Regardless of that retail price.

However, Federal State and Local entities make anywhere from 40 cents to 50 cents for every gallon sold at retail. And what is their input? Nothing.

Gallons of fuel aren't drilled, they're refined

Republicans aren't sending oil companies jack shit. Nobody is. What industry is afforded are tax treatments that are afforded every other industry in this country.

Obama is an irresponsible jackass for proclaiming that industry is given "billions in subsidies", and you are severely uneducated on the facts for believing that mother scratcher.

OK. Let's just shut down all the roads and interstates. That will save us all that tax money, and we won't have to tax gasoline. Like bicycles?

Actually, you could take 56 cents right off the top of a gallon of gas if you stop the Wall St. speculators.

obama is really really stupid. He believes that oil companies will not raise prices to compensate for the loss of the subsidies. He believes that the money the government gets from the subsidies will be best spent on his green energy programs that have been proven not to work.

That's the common stumbling block for most progressive "tax the wealthy!" or "tax big oil!" schemes. They either fail to understand that increased costs at some point get passed on to consumers or they simply don't care because it provides a reason for more regulations or a government takeover.

At the bottom of this of course is the progressive knee jerk "aversion" to profit. Profit is not viewed by progressives as the sign of a healthy business entity that will provide tax revenues and not require bailouts...no, profit is seen as an evil thing to be punished by...you guessed it...taking away those profits and using them to support progressive policy.

The reason that our economic recovery has been so tepid is because business leaders understand that the administration now occupying the White House is not their ally...but rather an obstacle to overcome. Make money and you become a target...not a role model.
