You come home from work to find your 8 year old picking up things around the house. Or voluntarily steps up to help clean the dinner dishes.

Hard to believe?

It’s not only possible but common throughout some Mexican/Guatemalan communities. And can be among American households too. How?

Kids as young as 3 want to help. And they don’t need to be rewarded for it.

1. Expose kids to chores as much as possible

2. Think small tasks, big contributions

3. Always aim to work together

4. Don't force it

5. Change your mindset about young children:

My children had completed plenty of chores, you are correct need to start them young.

I was 11 and in the 6th grade when I started keeping my room clean. The sad thing is that I have become more organized compared to my mom. I love her, but gee whiz the woman is in such need of help.

God bless you and her always!!!

P.S. Yes, I do what I can to help her, but since she is the problem, a person in my position can only do so much.

This is a follow-up to the OP. Same author. [Guess she hasn’t anything else to write about]

Same tips.

1. Make chores the fun activity of the day.

2. Welcome the 30-pound troll trying to stop you from finishing the chore.

3. Take your time with the chores.

4. Find a toddler-sized chunk of the task she can complete.
