Got my letter from the census

I am going to wager that the Census workers don't even bother to show up at my house. One has to walk up two flights of stairs to get to the front door (upslope hill lot) - I doubt the losers they hire will make the effort.

At least lower the drawbridge over the Crocadile-filled Moat.

I see nobody addressed my post where I pointed out that MANY (mostly RED states) get more funds back from the Fed than they pay in. My home state of Idaho gets $1.20 back for every $1.00 sent so if a BUNCH of paranoid Idahoans REFUSE to answer the cencus we may get LESS money from the Fed for BADLY needed projects including highways.

I agree. The census is required by our constitution.
The 'fears' about all the questions are unfounded because of this simple reason;

There are two census forms. I received mine in the mail, and it was the 'long form' with all the questions that people have expressed distrust over. I distrusted it as well, until I read through to the end where it said that the 'short form' could be downloaded from the internet.
That's what I did, downloaded the short form, filled it out. There are 10 questions, and even at that not all of them require an answer.
for example;
the question asking for a phone number is clearly marked optional, as is the question about race.

I fulfilled my legal obligation and my responsibilities as a citizen and actually only had to answer 7 questions for each of us that are less intrusive than signing up for a yahoo mail account.

I live in an area that historically has been 'under-counted' because of the paranoia of government intrusion. After I filled mine out, I did get a visit from a census worker, who is one of my neighbors. After telling her i filled out the short form I downloaded she thanked me and left.

Last summer when they were sending people out to 'canvas' the area, I was in the forest, where I work in the summer.
After being told there were no permanent residents in the forest, the census worker started snooping around in one of our out-buildings. I chased him away and reported him.
The outcome of that was that person was fired, and fined 1500 bucks, as well as barred from working as a census worker forever.


Fill out the short-form and send it in, it is one of your responsibilities as a citizen.

you are missing the point
its not not answering the only valid question on the census, its not answer the questions that have nothing to do with enumeration of the population

And it bugs me about its attitude.

It does not ask you to fullfil a constitituional obligation. It ask you to make sure you are lined up correctly for the pork teat. It doesn't even mention the constitution.

About one week from now you will receive a 2010 census form in the mail. When you receive your form, please fill it in and mail it in promptly

Your response is important. Results from the 2010 census will be used to help each community gets its fair share [!!!!!!] of government [ie taxpayer] funds for schools, health facilities, and many other programs you and and your neighbors needs Without a complete, accurate census, your community may not receive its fair share

I added my own annotations. What about our representation in congress? Is that too trivial to mention? What about redistricting here in the state of Oregon. That is too trivial as well.

But the really important part of the census is how much we can score off our neighbors. I can see Adams, Jefferson, Madison, Marshall and the rest of the boys being thrilled about that.

I got the same letter on Monday, word for word.

I am not gonna get all worked up about it. The Constitution requires an enumeration - who and how many. Answer those and no others and send it back. Or lie and make up shit to skew the results. Or trash it. Its up to you.

It's about firehouses, schools, police departments, libraries, parks. If you hate these things, definitely don't fill out your census.

That is what it has become. Not what it is about. The fact it has become that is what is making me unhappy.

The main thing that upsets me this year is the obvious waste, and I also have to wonder why the White House is involved this year.... Or has Mr Obama seen the light and backed off on his power grab?
