Londonderry, New Hampshire (CNN) – Newt Gingrich responded to a call Monday by GOP rival Mitt Romney to return the money he received from mortgage giant Freddie Mac by issuing his own challenge.
"If Gov. Romney would like to give back all the money he's earned from bankrupting companies and laying off employees over his years at Bain that I would be glad to then listen to him," Gingrich told reporters after a town hall, referring to the company Romney ran. "And I'll bet you 10 dollars, not 10 thousand that he won't take the offer."

Following the ill-fated campaign of Senator George McGovern, of the "$1000.00 for Every Man, Woman, and Child" campaign: Then the Democratic Party was widely perceived to be in a too-liberal disarray. The Democratic Liberals, however, would put a semblance of the McGovern concept into the 1986, U. S. Federal Income Tax reform. The Standard Deduction was raised several thousand dollars and indexed. The Equal Amount Personal Exemptions were indexed.
The Clinton Administration would go further and create the equal-amount income tax child credit. Ronald Reagan had created the first $1.0 tril. federally indebted presidency in history. Nowhere famous is the noted, "What-Comes-After-Ronald-Reagan?!" In 1992, that was nowhere famously called, "The 1996 Default of the United States Federal Government." The deficits were not working. The unemployment rate was rising. The national economy was into recession.
The Centrist Democrats famously applied even more of the McGovernite concept into their tax credit. That was an equal-amount per child.
Speaker Gingrich would ignore all arithmetic as usual--a Reagan-era hold-over--and start lambasting the "Hippie McGovernites," Actually, in fact, the Arithmetic applied in the Clinton recovery would even lead to the invention of Al Gore(?)! The Deficit went away. The nation was prosperous. Lower Income Black Commedians could even point to one of their own(?). . .or maybe two, or more(?)!
Bush-Cheney would reverse all that(?). Cheney would even go so far as to remark--and famously--that Reagan proved that Deficits Do Not Matter!
Wall Street Understands that not-hippie concept even now(?)!
Clearly, redistributive, and cognizant--cogent or cognitive--Speaker Gingrich clearly is not. Still he may have been able to tease an OWS tear-jerk with a call for Romney to renege on what it is that Republicans in business do best: Which is to not create any jobs or prosperity. Republicans mainly take things away, and from the very start.
