Don't forget the liberals created the USA

Definition of a liberal;

A liberal (also leftist) is someone who rejects logical and biblical standards, often for self-centered reasons. There are no coherent liberal standards; often a liberal is merely someone who craves attention, and who uses many words to say nothing. Liberalism began as a movement for individual liberties, but today is increasingly statist and, as in Europe, socialistic. Liberalism has changed over the years and degenerated into corruption. For example, FDR, one of the few great democratic Presidents, firmly believed in private sector unions, but vehemently opposed and condemned public sector unions, stating that the idea of collective bargaining can't be transferred to the public sector, as that would result in the government being unable to carry out its duties. Yet today, decades later, democrats and liberals are almost in bed with public sector unions, as they "donate" money to the re-election campaign in exchange for more taxpayer money in their wallets and fluffed up pensions.

According to current dictionaries and their own beliefs, a liberal is "a person who favors a political philosophy of progress and reform and the protection of civil liberties" or "a person who favors an economic theory of laissez-faire and self-regulating markets". or "open-minded or tolerant, especially free of or not bound by traditional or conventional ideas, values, etc." or "favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible, especially as guaranteed by law and secured by governmental protection of civil liberties". In practice, however, liberals are often the most intolerant of people, and frequently are on the side of disorder, chaos, anarchy, and lawbreaking. According to Webster's Unabridged Dictionary - and matched by current observation - liberals are "unchecked by a sense of the decorous, the fitting, or the polite...lacking significant moral restraints" or "...an emancipation from convention, tradition, or dogma that extends from a belief in altering institutions to fit altering conditions to a preference for lawlessness" Polling data over several decades has consistently shown more Americans identify themselves as conservative than liberal, by a ratio of 2-1.

Our Founding Father's were not libeal.
They were very religious, very logical and certainly were not self centered.

Don't forget (especially you Mr. Nick ) that the American revolutionists and Founding Fathers were all liberals.

There is a HUGE difference between classical liberal and progressive liberal.

I'm a classical liberal, progressives are authoritarian nuts..

Get a fucking education..

Nice manifold but bad sense of history. JFK was a liberal but he would be considered a right wing conservative based on today's standards. The word Liberal in the political sense has evolved to such a degree that even liberals are afraid to use it. Founding Fathers not withstanding, today's meaning of the word liberal is synonymous with anti-American and socialist.

Nothing could be further from the truth

Liberalism (from the Latin liberalis, "of freedom")[1] is the belief in the importance of liberty and equal rights.[2] Liberals espouse a wide array of views depending on their understanding of these principles, but most liberals support such fundamental ideas as constitutions, liberal democracy, free and fair elections, human rights, capitalism, free trade, and the freedom of religion.[3][4][5][6][7] These ideas are widely accepted, even by political groups that do not openly profess a liberal ideological orientation.

How to Label Cato
Today, those who subscribe to the principles of the American Revolution — individual liberty, limited government, the free market, and the rule of law — call themselves by a variety of terms, including conservative, libertarian, classical liberal, and liberal. We see problems with all of those terms. "Conservative" smacks of an unwillingness to change, of a desire to preserve the status quo. Only in America do people seem to refer to free-market capitalism — the most progressive, dynamic, and ever-changing system the world has ever known — as conservative. Additionally, many contemporary American conservatives favor state intervention in some areas, most notably in trade and into our private lives.

"Classical liberal" is a bit closer to the mark, but the word "classical" fails to capture the contemporary vibrancy of the ideas of freedom.

"Liberal" may well be the perfect word in most of the world — the liberals in societies from China to Iran to South Africa to Argentina tend to be supporters of human rights and free markets — but its meaning has clearly been altered in the contemporary United States.

The Jeffersonian philosophy that animates Cato's work has increasingly come to be called "libertarianism" or "market liberalism." It combines an appreciation for entrepreneurship, the market process, and lower taxes with strict respect for civil liberties and skepticism about the benefits of both the welfare state and foreign military adventurism.

This vision brings the wisdom of the American Founders to bear on the problems of today. As did the Founders, it looks to the future with optimism and excitement, eager to discover what great things women and men will do in the coming century. Market liberals appreciate the complexity of a great society, recognizing that socialism and government planning are just too clumsy for the modern world. It is — or used to be — the conventional wisdom that a more complex society needs more government, but the truth is just the opposite. The simpler the society, the less damage government planning does. Planning is cumbersome in an agricultural society, costly in an industrial economy, and impossible in the information age. Today collectivism and planning are outmoded and backward, a drag on social progress.

Libertarians have a cosmopolitan, inclusive vision for society. We applaud the progressive extension of the promises of the Declaration of Independence to more people, especially to women, African-Americans, religious minorities, and gay and lesbian people. Our greatest challenge today is to continue to extend the promise of political freedom and economic opportunity to those who are still denied it, in our own country and around the world.

About Cato

Its fucking disgusting I have to point out "classical liberal."

You authoritarians are fucking tyrannical anti-liberals....

For years I have been disgusted with progressives referring to themselves as "liberal" when you're NOT FUCKING LIBERAL... You're authoritarian socialist moonbats.

Classical liberalism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Classical liberalism is a philosophy committed to the ideal of limited government, liberty of individuals including freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, and free markets.[1]

Classical liberalism developed in the 19th century in Western Europe, and the Americas. Although classical liberalism built on ideas that had already developed by the end of the 18th century, it advocated a specific kind of society, government and public policy required as a result of the Industrial Revolution and urbanization.[2] Notable individuals who have contributed to classical liberalism include Jean-Baptiste Say, Thomas Malthus and David Ricardo.[3] It drew on the economics of Adam Smith, a psychological understanding of individual liberty, natural law and utilitarianism, and a belief in progress. Classical liberals established political parties that were called "liberal", although in the United States classical liberalism came to dominate both existing major political parties.[1] There was a revival of interest in classical liberalism in the 20th century led by Friedrich Hayek and Milton Friedman.[4]

In the late 19th century, classical liberalism developed into neo-classical liberalism, which argued for government to be as small as possible in order to allow the exercise of individual freedom. In its most extreme form, it advocated Social Darwinism. Libertarianism is a modern form of neo-classical liberalism.[5]

The term classical liberalism was applied in retrospect to distinguish earlier 19th-century liberalism from the newer social liberalism.[6] The phrase classical liberalism is also sometimes used to refer to all forms of liberalism before the 20th century, and some conservatives and libertarians use the term classical liberalism to describe their belief in the primacy of economic freedom and minimal government. It is not always clear which meaning is intended.[7][8][9]

It is what they (lefties) do; they take something that is honorable and admirable and hijack it to decieve the willfully ignorant.

Strawman from conserv-0-pedia does not define liberals.

Epic failure on rebuttal.

When have you ever seen the tea party protesters tear up and destroy public property. They clean up the areas where they have protested.
It is the left who destroy public property and leave trash everywhere. And are the ones getting arrested for being violent.

No sorry, the FRENCH REVOLUTION was a liberal/leftist/marxist Revolution.

The Founding Fathers were definitely conservatives.

My evidence? The Constitution and who sides with following it, vs. who wants to do away with the Constitution.

Yep.... They're hypocrites.

Remember these asshats are the same ones crying about saving the planet, yet after a rally these fools leave the place looking like a tornado just swept through.

Liberals are like pigs in a pig pen..

I've been to several tea party rallies and we always clean up after the event...

Karl Marx wasn't even born yet...

You may be confusing the French Revolution with Lenins October Revolution/Russian/ Bolshevik Revolution of 1917. Now that certainly WAS inspired by Karl Marx.

Yes really.

What does the Tea Party have to do the definiation of liberals and/or liberalism?

You simply cannot take the actions of a few disgruntled (anarchists ) and blame every liberal for their indvidual act of vandelism or crime.

The definition you posted is propaganda.

Oh no it was definantly liberal to allow the Slaves to be counted as 3/5ths of a person.

Liberal enough to allow future modifications to the Constitution as the country saw fit.

The Original Constitution was indeed flawed as evidence by the numerous changes we've made in the form of amendments.

Just learned last night that originally, the State were not bound to abide by the Bill of Rights. That flaw was corrected. Many other were too.

Classical liberals DID found the United States, you are correct, but classical liberals are the exact opposite of todays liberals. Classical liberals believed in individualism and the rights of a free society, todays liberals believe in collective salvation and bigger government along with the nanny state and more government control of your every day lives.
Somehow I just dont see Benjamin Franklin supporting gay rights, nanny state, social programs for the lazy and an overbearing government that forces it's citizens to buy products. Nope, if classical liberals still existed today and where in charge, this country would not be as fucked up as it is now, California would be alot better off too.
The original post is nothing more then another liberal twisting the truth to fit their agenda. Too bad there is people like me on here to expose it for the rest of the honest posters.

It is not propaganda it is the truth.
It is the left who put up propaganda and won't check out the actual sources.
