I understand that. We have had several bases close over the past few decades and the communities around them have been devastated. The military is an economic power in this country, but it would be even more effective if the money were spent directly on domestic programs like the ones I mentioned. I am not talking about shutting down the military, but it is far more bloated than necessary. A fraction of that funding spent on people instead of tanks would be an enormous help. Without a healthy infrastructure and a healthy, educated populace, we got nuthin.

The US bailed out Europe after WW2 and Japan. At one time the Sun never set on the British Empire. Look at their sad state of affairs that Socialism has brought them to. Of all the countries in Europe, it surprises me that the Germans have fallen into socialism. The Iron Curtain years kept the Left tamped down. With that threat gone the Left has taken over.
The US has paid more than its share in aid to all these countries. All the while they were pursuing Socialism and American tax dollars helped them achieve it. They have short work weeks, extended sick leave and holiday benefits. Not only have we been paying for this but NATO & the UN too. It is time they pony up their share.
