It is times like these that I am reminded of one of the most brilliant quotes of all time - from Frédéric Bastiat:Well, I'll let you petition the Congress or whomever to get rid of NASA, the Air Force and FEMA. Most citizens recognize the need for all three and the hundreds of other things government does that are not spelled out in our Constitution.
"Socialism, like the ancient ideas from which it springs, confuses the distinction between government and society. As a result of this, every time we object to a thing being done by government, the socialists conclude that we object to its being done at all." -Frédéric Bastiat
Just because the federal government isn't legally authorized to do it, doesn't mean conservatives don't want it done. Hell, it doesn't even mean that we don't want government doing it. Just not the federal government.
Take FEMA for instance. If you feel that an Emergency Assistance program is necessary - why not work with the people in your community to create it? Create a foundation for it to protect your community. Or, engage your city council and mayor to have your local government do it. Or, have your county do it. Or, have you state do it. Do you see how many options are available that do not include the federal government illegally/unconstitutionally forcing all American's into your version of a utopia?
