On March 16, 2004, at Waxman's request, the Committee on Government Reform Minority Office published "Iraq on the Record, the Bush Administration's Public Statements on Iraq" a detailed and searchable collection of 237 specific misleading statements made by Bush Administration officials about the threat posed by Iraq. It contains statements that were misleading based on what was known to the Administration at the time the statements were made. It does not include statements that appear mistaken only in hindsight. If a statement was an accurate reflection of U.S. intelligence at the time it was made, it was excluded even if it now appears erroneous.

Why Henry Waxman Was One of the Most Important Congressmen Ever Mother Jones

Parlaying over a decade of experience as Chairman (2007 – 2008) and Ranking Member (1997 – 2006) of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee into his leadership role on the Energy and Commerce Committee, Rep. Henry A. Waxman has been long regarded as an effective voice for Americans in an era when special interests often dominate public discourse. Upon assuming Chairmanship of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce in 2008, Rep. Waxman was able to translate his background of uncovering waste, fraud, and abuse, into a robust list of legislative accomplishments that ensure fair competition, free flow of truthful information in the marketplace, product safety and additional protections for the most susceptible among us.

As Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Rep. Waxman conducted investigations into a wide range of topics. From 2001 to 2008, Rep. Waxman worked to oppose efforts by the Bush Administration to block congressional oversight and roll back health and environmental laws. He launched investigations of White House ties to Enron, contract abuses in Iraq, and the politicization of science. He also fought for disclosure of the names of the energy industry lobbyists who shaped the White House energy plan and filed suit to force the Administration to released "adjusted" data from the 2000 Census that corrects for the undercount of minorities. In addition, Rep. Waxman repeatedly fought efforts by EPA to relax important air pollution and drinking water protections and by FDA to weaken enforcement of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.

henry waxmen is an asshole....he is in my part of the State i know all about this two-faced fuck....and he was one of the ones responsible for helping fuck up the post office.....after he came and told our Union he would stand up for the PO in Congress.....yea he sure did...he co-sponsored HR 6407 in 06.....

Ted Kennedy voted for the Postal Reform Act of 2006. So did Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and John Kerry. In, fact, it passed the Senate with 100% consent, not a single senator objected to the language in the bill. And the sponsors of the bill in the house were two Republicans, Tom Davis and John McHugh, and two Democrats, Danny Davis and Henry Waxman.

As far as Union busting goes, when the bill was passed, the NALC, the letter carrier union of the postal srvice, was quiet happy with the bill.

Please this bill was pushed heavily by the National Association of Letter Carriers Union.

The union loved it at the time, because it shifted the paying of military pensions to retired postal workers from the postal service to the federal govt

The legislation was endorsed by the U.S. Postal Service, postal unions, and mailer organizations:

  • The head of the U.S. Postal Service, Postmaster General John Potter, said the new law put the Postal Service on “firm financial footing for the future.”
  • The President of the National Association of Letter Carriers, William Young, said, “This law is the culmination of many years of hard work by many NALC officers.”
  • The President of the National Association of Postmasters of the United States, Dale Goff, said the new law had received “well-deserved accolades” and “offered this nation the best opportunity for continued postal viability.”
The President of the Printing Industry Association, Michael Makin, “hailed” the legislation, stating, “This legislation will allow the mailing community to plan for affordable, predictable rate increases, while also bringing modern, post-Internet era management efficiencies to the U.S. Postal Service.”

A good history on the bill:

A commenter and then other comments show the history

"This thread shows where the original bill was approved by Reps and Dems.

But in the second bill (HR6407), they changed the prefunding requirement to be
actual dollar amounts.

Here is the question: Did the Republicans dupe the Democrats into thinking
nothing was changed in the original bill HR22? One can only guess, however, this
is a republican trick."

not laying it just at his feet....he was just one of the players.....it really gets me how you people just believe what you read in the papers...tell you what Dad....go to a postal Convention and watch these people get up and say to everyone how they are for something and then when they go back to DC they all of a sudden cant seem to remember what they said or they have something different to say then what they said at the convention.....funny how that works.....Diane Feinstein told the Union she was against the PO shutting down PO's around the Country and she promised to fight this....then we find her fucking husband was in charge of the firm doing this and was making some big bucks doing this....Branch 1100 out here sent her a letter saying ...what the fuck?....her response?.....she said all these nice things about the PO but not one fucking time in her reply did she say anything about the PO closings.....nothing .......kiss their asses all you want Dad....i will pass, i know better....

Rep. Henry A. Waxman s Record on Postal Reform Congressman Henry Waxman
The legislation was endorsed by the U.S. Postal Service, postal unions, and mailer organizations:
H.R.6407?.....bullshit....no one thought paying 5 billion up front was a great idea....especially the PO and the N.A.L.C and the A.P.W.U.....you are talking other legislation in 6407.....how long did you work for the PO?.....i was a carrier for 33 years and sat in a quite a few Union management meetings.....John Potter was considered to be an asshole who they felt was trying to privatize the place....and the leader of the Postmasters Union?.....please.....

The union loved it at the time, because it shifted the paying of military pensions to retired postal workers from the postal service to the federal govt.

It passed in both houses with a unanimous voice vote. No nays. All the postal unions supported it.
just because Congress liked it dont mean jack shit.....the PO has been trying to get these guys out of their lives for as long as i have been there..... we have had PMG's from private industry who have quit because they could not run the place with clueless people from Congress telling them how to run the place......the so called Postal Commission that they put together to "solve" the PO's problems havent done shit in the years they have been together but eat their lunch.... when you sit in on something with the actual players you hear things you dont hear in public.....Waxmen,Feinstein and other Democrats who have stood in front of the Union at conventions or workshops and said one thing but yet did another in Congress are not that well thought of by many Union officials and workers.......and Potter was not well thought of and his successor,Donahoe is considered even worse.....most of the rank and file do not think these people have theirs or the agencies best interest at heart....many think these guys are working with the privatizers........the Unions and PO liked many of its provisions.....they did not like a lot of others.....like the 5 billion dollar thing.....they want to make their own decision on their retirement system and health benefits.......

Look, no doubt EVERY GOPer has wanted to privatize the PO (and EVERY other Gov't function), but to not accept that the union DID back the bill in 2006, AND every Dem in Congress supported it, says something. Where was the working guys outrage in 2006 on this bill?

A good history on the bill:

A commenter and then other comments show the history

"This thread shows where the original bill was approved by Reps and Dems.

But in the second bill (HR6407), they changed the prefunding requirement to be
actual dollar amounts.

Here is the question: Did the Republicans dupe the Democrats into thinking
nothing was changed in the original bill HR22? One can only guess, however, this
is a republican trick."

You know that bill was supposed to 'save' the post office by allowing it to set it's own rates?

Yes, one party is at fault for stopping the Dems attempts to fix the 'pre funding' requirement.

EVERY Repug AND Dem in Congress voted for the bill

But one of the most liberal members of Congress, for 20+ years, was a disaster? lol

But one of the most liberal members of Congress, for 20+ years, was a disaster? lol

Thanks for playing"
why do you think the Unions supported the bill?....i told you just a few posts ago but you dont want to talk about that.....why?...and it doesnt matter if everyone in Congress liked the Bill....they dont run the fucking place....they are like you,on the outside looking in and come together and get reports and then think they know whats going on.....so let me ask you Dad....how long have you worked for the PO?.....have you ever walked out on the work room floor?.....have you ever sat in on a meeting with middle management and Union officials?....because you seem to think you know so much about the place.......if you have...you just may have a different view of the people you seem to follow blindly.....the Unions will bitch and moan internally to the Govt and guys like Waxmen....but because they depend on those same pieces of shit to get what they need to operate there is only so much they can say without retribution from them.....i get the Postal Record every month....thats the National Union magazine.....the President, Fredric Rolando has had various articles in that letting Democrats and Republicans know how the Union feels about them and what they are doing or have done..... in public they are great guys.....i know you just cant comprehend that but when Congress controls the place and there are so many assholes on all these committees they have to be pretty selective on how they say things to these jerks....so yea....thanks for playing......maybe one day you might actually know what is really going on....outside of the bullshit you are told by those looking in the same window you are....

Weird, you can't point to even ONE union position who was against it BEFORE it was passed AND you can't refute the Dems have tried to reform the law and the GOPers have blocked them
would it do any good?......im telling you that those you think are so wonderful are not as wonderful as you say they are because of something you have read that they said......the N.A.L.C. has people who follow postal bills .....something you or i do not do......and when im sitting there listening to these people say something about who is fucking the PO.....even though these people told the Union something different........ who should i believe?.....this guy named Dad from Monterey who is on the outside looking in,or someone who is on the inside and knows who is doing what?......sorry Dad.....you lose on that count....the Democrats are not helping much....oh and to let you know.....the Unions have a fair amount of Republicans they say are "friends of the Union"....the PO has many workers who are not Union members because the Union will not say publicly what we hear on the inside......the Union puts up with this shit because....gotta maintain the political bullshit and not piss anyone off ....cant have that.......

So lets get tto a couple of points you don't seem to WANT to even try to refute

One EVERY PO union supported the bill

EVERY Repug AND Dem in Congress voted for the bill

Repugs are blocking the Dems attempt to 'fix' the PO bill

But one of the most liberal members of Congress, for 20+ years, was a disaster? lol

Thanks for playing
yea lets get this point out of the way.....someone on the outside looking in trying to tell me, someone who actually worked for the place and has actually sat in on many meetings and has been to workshops, that you know more about what goes on internally than i do?......all your telling me is that you are one of them die hard Democrats that believe everything they tell you.........and yea your little buddy Waxmen.....was a 2 faced asshole, just like your other friend Feinstein....so yea....thanks for playing......
