The fighting would end, Russian soldiers and Ukrainian soldiers and civilians would stop dying from the fighting, Russia would be relieved of the terrible financial burden of trying to finance the war, Russian factories would be able to go back to peacetime activities and Russia could try to restore relations with countries like India which now buy things from the West they used to buy from Russia. If Russia pulled out tomorrow just what do you think would happen?
All good things, but there could be no weakening of sanctions before security arrangements could be negotiated, no travel between Russia and Ukraine without visas, no Russian military bases in Crimea. Further, it is unlikely the friendly relations that existed between Russia and Europe before Putin began his imperialist rampages can be restored for at least generations, and Russia will not again have a seat at the councils of civilized nations until it accepts responsibility for its criminal acts and makes restitution.
Compared to the alternate of endless war Russia cannot afford, this is a good deal for Russia.
