A child was killed as a result of shelling by Ukrainian artillery in the Petrovsky district of the capital of the DNR. This was reported in Telegram by the mayor of the city Alexei Kulemzin, reports the correspondent of "Donbass Today".

Russia has expended decades of munitions production, hundreds of thousands military age males, a number of warships, shot out the lands of its artillery park, lost thousands of tanks and AFVs, hundreds of its most modern aircraft and gutted its financial reserves. If that isn’t losing, I don’t know what is.

They've lost some obsolete vehicles and expiring ordnance, but they significantly increased production of new vehicles and new ordnance, including brand new ones. They've lost some young male adults, but just a bit more than they lost them in car accidents in peace time, and they've liberated millions of ethnic Russians in Novorussia. Population of Russia, its territory, iits resources and its military strength increased, not decreased. Right now they are prevailing in this conflict.

The fighting would end, Russian soldiers and Ukrainian soldiers and civilians would stop dying from the fighting, Russia would be relieved of the terrible financial burden of trying to finance the war, Russian factories would be able to go back to peacetime activities and Russia could try to restore relations with countries like India which now buy things from the West they used to buy from Russia.

All good things, but there could be no weakening of sanctions before security arrangements could be negotiated, no travel between Russia and Ukraine without visas, no Russian military bases in Crimea. Further, it is unlikely the friendly relations that existed between Russia and Europe before Putin began his imperialist rampages can be restored for at least generations, and Russia will not again have a seat at the councils of civilized nations until it accepts responsibility for its criminal acts and makes restitution.

Compared to the alternate of endless war Russia cannot afford, this is a good deal for Russia.

They are ordinary contractors, not mobilized soldiers, and they are still in Orenburg region, they have their payment from MoD only, which is a bit more than an average salary in the region. To earn more money they need better training and go to the actual fight in Ukraine.
The governors of many other regions pay additional bonuses even to ordinary contractors, so it's not about the empire, it's about the region.
