California unveils Native American monument at Capitol, replacing missionary statue toppled in 2020

Stop making false equivalences. Nobody went into Europe and tried colonizing whites.
Europeans colonized one another. What was Britian but a Roman colony? Non whites never colonized a white country. No non white country had a civilization that would support exploration and discovery. They had no civilization worth exporting.

You ignorant snowflake white really prefer those fairy tales over reality don't you? 😄

What European leaders exported around the world was economic subjugation but the first to be subjugated by them were poor white trash Europeans like yourself.

It also really pisses the savages off when they find out most of India actually welcomed the British taking over; it was far better than the chaos that prevailed before, and actually unified the sub-continent into 'India', a real nation today. No way a mere 10,000 Brits could have ruled the place without a major part of the local population supporting that rule.

In the U.S., the Osage was desperate to get the U.S. to intervene and protect them from extinction by the other Sioux tribes; they repeatedly shot arrows at passing riverboats hoping to get attention and bring the Army in. It worked; they got a reservation and protection out of it. Turned out to be really valuable oil land, making them the richest Americans in history as a group, for a while.

Britian got rid of the despicable practice of suttee. Widows were burned alive on the funeral bonfires of deceased husbands.

I just feel that the statue may have been well meaning. However, if they want to pay their respects, then change the name of a county in California, in the area where the tribe used to live, and rename it to Miwok County. That beats a statue

We already have that.

Colusa County is named for a tribe that lived on the Sacramento River.

Inyo County was named for a member of the Timbisha tribe.

Marin County was named after Chief Marin, the leader of the Miwok tribe.

Modoc County was named for the Modoc tribe.

Mono County was named for the Monachi tribe.

Shasta County of course is named after the mountain, named for the Shasta tribe.

Solano County is named after Chief Solano of the Suisune tribe.

Stanislas County is named after a member of the Lakisamni tribe.

Tehama County comes from a Wintun word for "high water".

Yolo County is named for the Yolan people who lived there.

Yuba County was named for a village of the Maidu people.

So you want to change yet another county name? Hell, many from Northern California know of Chief Marin of the Miwok. He was actually well respected by the Spanish, even though he led an insurgency against the Spanish. And even thought he fought the Spanish, they still respected him for his abilities in battle so named the region and eventual county after him.

So what exactly were the Arabs?

Most tend to forget that for over a thousand years, they were primarily known as traders and explorers. Taking their Dhows all the way to China in search of riches and trade.

Most tend to forget that Sinbad was a trader and explorer from Baghdad.

All I'm saying is there is a much better way to honor an entire tribe that used to live on the land, throwing up a statue is a bit lame.

Even more lame is removing the statue to honor another in order to do that.

I have a serious issue with removing honors erected for others. And I find it disgusting when people want to do it for essentially political purposes. I would object just as strongly if somebody wanted to remove a statue of President Andrew Jackson or a Confederate Soldier as I would if another wanted to remove a statue of Dr. King or FDR. I simply do not understand "cancel culture", and find it amazingly Orwellian when people want to remove memorials because it makes them uncomfortable.

Of course, I also find it stupid that the same people seem to want to excise almost any recognition of American Indians. When the freaking sports team of a High School on an Indian Reservation is not allowed to use the mascot "Warrior" or "Brave", that shows how far off the rails things have gotten. And I am still sitting back and waiting for the removal of the "Fighting Irish", or any other groups. Because for some silly reason, using an Indian mascot is allowed but using a short stereotypical Irishman is fine.

The indians in those parts had slaves and brutally killed one another.

But we can't talk about that. Nor can we ever talk about the attacks on whites they did.

Like many will bring up the Bear Creek massacre without a problem. Yet at the same time will never bring up the Fort Hall Massacre or the Utter Massacre. It's like they want to pretend that it was not something that went both ways.

Stop being ignorant if you can.

Wait a minute, are you trying to say the Lakota did not butcher their way from Louisiana up to the Great Lakes, and were not butchering their way West when the whites arrived? And were not involved in a bitter and brutal war with the Absaroka and Cheyenne?
