The boondoggle of all boondoggles has now been formally submitted for approval to the Calif. State legislature.

California bullet train panel requests billions to start building - latimes.com

May 2009 when this idea as an embryo took off due to stimulus dollars being offered, the cost was estimated at $33 billion with a scheduled completion date of 2020.

Via the usual political in vitro process the plan has morphed into a $98 Billion Frankenstein with a new scheduled completion date of 2033.

Oh and they built in a fudge factor of…..wait for it……............….20%, so we have to consider $117 billion all in;

From the link;

A bullet train business plan released Tuesday notes that the system cost of $98 billion could jump an additional $19 billion depending on the route and construction features.

Its not like we have not been here before, the Big Dig started out with a price tag of 2.8 Billion, final cost ( an est. which some consider low) $22 Billion with a completion date pushed from 1998 to, 2007.

The big dig apparently does what it said what it was going to do, this High Speed rail, can never perform as it was advertised and sold via referendum to the public, this much is certain.

The irresponsibility in play here is beyond calculation. Its beyond my comprehension how any gov. official can agree to go forward with this project, seriously, this state is an insane asylum and the inmates are running the show.
