According to Maslow, this is the final stage in the hierarchy of needs. Are you there yet?

If they get rid of the ACA many will be at the bottom 2 rungs. All come and go. I feel much less safe now that T is president, with Masters at his side , as Masters is a warrior, that is all he has known is war. He lives for it. With what T said about Iran and NK at the UN, I feel very unsafe.

Would you consider son one that is a loner and a loser who is happy self actualized?

I find the state of people are never really satisfied in life. Things happen, life happens. People die, people lose their jobs, the rich worry about not being rich or really are not. Healthy one minute , not the next.

If one can live homeless, and still be happy I guess one can be self actualized. They do not call the US Prozac nation for nothing. People worry.

Kids , lets hope are the self actualized if brought up by loving people. Many are not happy and creative today, they are insecure, and kids can be cruel as well. Peer pressure.

I don't think Maslow had it right. We all enter and leave stages and re-enter them and the cycle continues.

But why do we worry? Even the homeless have basic needs met in the US

If self actualization is truly the pinnacle of existence, the self actualized don't waste time talking about it. They are too busy pursuing creative fulfillment and whatnot.

No. Still lots of hungry people without shelter or basic healthcare. An emergency room will sew you up if you're bleeding, but they won't do anything for a diabetic.

Unless they get fufillment helping others by talking about it

Oh I bet there are systems in place for that. I didn't think of the healthcare aspect, but every city has food banks and shelters

Personally?

I think Maslow was a bit of a WASP and an elitist. He couldn't imagine a world outside of his white bred world, so he had to make an hierarchy. It was his, "white privilege," ladder to happiness you could say.

Go read the book "Fight Club," or even read Penelope's posts. On this forum, it doesn't matter if folks lean heavily to the left, like they view socialism favorably, or they lean far to the right, and think corporate capitalism, (i.e. fascism) is the answer; all of them agree on one basic tenet that since birth, they have all been indoctrinated with, by our compulsory government education, and our corporate controlled brainwashing MASS MEDIA, and that simple truth is this;

That the only thing in life that you need to first make you happy is financial and career success, AFTER that, you can worry about, well, those things higher up on Maslow's hierarchy.

And why should that be? Because the elites that run the show and have made slaves of everyone benefit from this situation.

Well, I'm here to tell you, that this line of reasoning is all bunk, it's bullshit. You don't even need to fall in love to live happily ever after. And you certainly don't need to be their slave.

As Socrates said. . . .

If you continually believe that the next purchase will lead you to happiness, you will forever be unhappy. If you think some other location, some new vista will lead to enlightenment, you will be sorely disappointed.

Sure the struggle is real, but while you struggle, so too, do your fellow human beings struggle for survival. That is what the human experience is about. All of those needs, they are integrated into your being, while you struggle to survive. It is not a pyramid, but a horizontal integrated minimalist structure that all can have, everyone can be a part of, and as they struggle for survival, together, with love. But it can only be achieved if you know yourself. Money is not required. Only as in an integrated individual with proper morals and ethics can you come to full knowledge of your purpose.

With purpose brings vision, and with vision brings hope. With hope for a brighter tomorrow brings happiness.

Unless bringing enlightenment to those in darkness is their purpose grasshopper. . . . .

I'm not ambitious and I'm ok with that. Would not say I am or am not self actualized, but I do know I love few, like most, and I enjoy my life, even my darkest hours I was grateful.

Yes, and most are underfunded, and not able to meet the needs of the area they serve. Call your local food bank and ask them if they have everything they need. I'll bet they don't say yes. Lots of people go without the basic needs of life.
