I was diagnosed with polio at age 8 or 9. I didn't know what it was. I remember the doctor telling me to raise my legs, which I did with no trouble. I felt fine and wondered why I had to stay in bed. My family was scared to death over it. Turns out I didn't have the 'paralytic' variety.
