Some of you may have noticed that Social Groups is no longer in the menu. There has been a concerted effort on the part of several individuals to get some feedback from the moderators. All we get is silence. Would one of the mods on here care to do their f*cking job and answer an honest question? What is going on with the social groups. A lot of people are worried about this. How about tossing us a bone?

Social Groups are an add on, not part of the software. They don't play well with the resident software. We experimented with them because we thought they would be fun for the members. What was not anticipated and only recently came to our attention - was that groups can be set up to be completely invisible to staff. That means staff doesn't know they exist and can not see what is in them. You could be setting up porn groups, sex trafficking, black market and we wouldn't know. Even though groups are given a lot of latitude - sitewide rules still apply, but can not be enforced. So you see what the problems are?

Let me expand on what Coyote said. If anyone has conspiracy theories on this decision -- direct them to this thread... And apologies Coyote -- I'm moving this announcements and temporarily reopening for comments. Did NOT belong in Politics.

The potential presence of illegal or criminal activity here was PART of the concern -- but there is more context than just that one thing.

We HAD Social Groups on the old S/W and when a member came to us and said they wanted to form an Election Reform group by invite only --- we all try to accomodate them.

The difference is -- that under the OLD BOARD S/W and mgt we had IMMEDIATE lines of control into the Admin level and could manage and maintain so that it didn't start to resemble a burnt out City center with 80% of the buildings condemned. We never got any such coupling this time.

And the Social Group listings were a MAJOR EMBARRASSMENT to USMB as of about 3 months after they started. We had 4 or 5 Pot and whimsy groups with almost NO responses in them. We had 2 "We hate foreigners groups" and NO VISIBILITY of forums that were created as TOTALLY private.

We've begged and pleaded for coordination and help to FIX this and get MANAGEMENT of that feature to no avail for OVER A FUCKING YEAR... And moderation tools to fix the garbage and the dangers of hosting actual criminal enterprises. We could have a penis pill spammer forum down there and would not KNOW IT.. Or an ISIS recruiting station.

It's NOT about you OR Conservatives. If there are unhappy Conservatives on USMB ---- there's an EQUAL # of unhappy leftists. That's how we roll. Don't need your help whipping up more division and polarization.

What we NEED is for INDIVIDUALS to talk with moderators about THEIR frustrations and not ACCUSE us of the bias that does not exist in judgements like this one. We get it from both sides. You've frustrated each other to death and BLAME US for all the lack of happiness.

We'll work on everyone's frustrations. But it will be thru UNIVERSAL rule changes and solutions to everyone's frustrations. NOT pandering or catering or making "deals" with one side or the other.

Would you be in favor of imposing CONTENT control so that the level of topical content INCREASED???
