11-year-old girl tasered at school

Maybe we should arm teachers and allow them to shoot students in the leg if they become disruptive. Most students can survive being shot in the leg.

LOL...personally, I think some teachers should be trained in law-enforcement and allowed to carry in the classroom. It wouldn't be a tool for discipline, but would be added security in case of a school shooting.

Reread the post above mine, I'm not blaming liberal anything. Screaming Eagle is blaming teachers/administration for adopting liberal philosophies, and causing the problems in the education system, which is certainly untrue. Granted certain people cause certain problems, however, if it were teachers running the show at the higher levels, things would be alot different.

No, it's true alright. The schools and the unions which represent the teachers have adopted completely liberal values and because of that our schools are in a mess. Between not being able to get rid of unfit teachers, the anti-Christian mind set, and the idiocy of teaching teachers "to teach" instead of the subjects they're teaching (and some common sense child-control practices) in our teachers' colleges, our education system has gone down the toilet.

Wanna see what national, government run health care will look like? Look at our crappy schools, crappy teachers, dangerous classrooms and crumbling public school buildings. That's what socialism will bring you. And I love the way liberals deny that it's "because" of liberalism. You'll never, ever get a liberal to own up to anything. It's always somebody else's problem, and they always expect somebody else to fix it...and if they try to "fix" it, and it fails (as it always does) then deny that it's because they've screwed it up further.

They fixed the public schools just like they fixed the military under Jimmy Carter, and like Obama will fix the US if he's elected.

That's like saying that if a liberal becomes president, he will represent all of us. Let me tell you about the things you mentioned. If schools had sufficient and equal funding, we wouldn't have crappy schools, if TEA and other leading education organizations had higher teaching standards, then we'd have better qualified teachers, etc... The school system works just like the government. Teachers are peons in the whole process. The higher powers that be may have liberal philiosophy, but teacher in general have no control over what goes on (unfortunately). Those of you who think teachers are responsible for the mess in our eduaction system are sadly misinformed about how the education system is governed. Yes we have crappy teachers because apparently it's too easy to get a certificate. That's like saying that when one soldier drops a puppy off the cliff, "the whole army must be bad." You're generalizing in the teaching field.
We have the same problem with standardized testing in the education system, it's a good tool but it's being used int he wrong way, and local teachers have no control over how it's administered and how it's used. Don't blame the teachers, blame your higher education organizations and government.

No, thanks. Just asking for more accidents, IMO. I'd have a hard time sending my kids to a school that had armed teachers or armed guards of any sort.

Sounds to me like the kid got what she deserved. Schools today lack so much discipline that they are failing. Kids have no respect. Getting tasered hurts, but it in no way permanent.

Dont come to Arizona then because we are now allowed to have teachers packing heat.

My beef with "no guns on a school campus" crap, is that criminals (those who come onto school campuses with guns and massacre kids) obviously don't follow the rules and could careless whether schools are supposed to be gun free. What's the difference letting a police officer carry on campus and letting a teacher who is also certified as a police officer carry on campus?

You don't see these crazed lunatics going to police stations or military installations shooting up people because they know they wouldn't last long. So what's the next best place, a school where everyone knows that guns are not allowed on campus. I see nothing wrong with a fully certified teacher (teaching/law enforcement) carrying a gun on campus to protect the children in the event of a school shooting.

The school system works just like a LIBERAL government. It's socialistic and run by bureauocrats. Teachers belong to unions, and they belong to those unions because libs insisted on liberalizing our education system.

Your parallels don't work, btw. I said our teachers were bad because the system that educates them and the system that runs the schools were bad....not that because there's one bad teacher, they all must be bad. Our military does a fine job of preparing our soldiers for the most part, and though bad soldiers exist as bad apples exist in every barrel, it's just because of the variances of human nature. Not because they are made that way by a broken system. Our education system does NOT do a fine job, our teachers and schools are crappy because of the way the system is organized, and crappy teachers exist because that's the way we train them.

The reason the schools are crappy is because liberals refuse to hold schools or teachers or students accountable for anything, yet want more and more money to waste when they do a cruddy job, instead of getting LESS money for a cruddy job. Which would make them re-think their approach to education as they were forced to look at methods that actually work.

Your first bolded statment says your not generalizing by saying they're all bad. Your last two bolded statements say otherwise....which is it?

Are you a teacher? If not, then you have no clue, just opinions.

If you knew what you were talking about, you'd know that they don't hold the students accountable for anything, but hold the teachers accountable and schools accountable. You're holding the schools and teachers accountable in every one of your posts. Are parents not also accountable? Is the government not also accountable.

Yeah let's scare our teachers into teaching and take away funding from kids who want to learn.

I'll agree that the higher powers that be in the education system have jacked up, but it has nothing to do with local teachers. You're right, the education system is a mess right now. But I can garuantee you that it's not the teacher's fault. If you've heard as many complaints as I have (from teachers who can't stand the policies they have to follow), you'd understand what I'm talking about.

I just don't see that it is that big of a problem. At this point, it seems more likely to me that a teacher would overreact and shoot someone than it is that someone comes into school and opens fire. Sure, I know it happens but the chances are pretty slim.

Fair enough, but I'm a firm believe that it's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Besides, there's no difference in a police officer over-racting and shooting someone...and they carry guns everywhere. If a teacher were trained in the same manner, it would be no different. I understand your point, we just have different views I guess. No harm with that.

Damn, quit not acting like a Texan.

btw, I don't want cops on campus either. Schools have already become too much like prison.

Same old liberal sing-song. You obviously think throwing more money at the problem is the answer…..just like you think zapping little kids with a taser is the answer.

Take the socialist state of California for example. They spend almost $300,000 per classroom per year. And yet they keep hollering for more money….as if $300k isn't enough! Private schools manage very well on one third to one half that amount.

Now you will probably complain that the classrooms don't see that kind of money….that teachers have to pay for classroom supplies out of their own pockets. Well, you got that right. Wonder where the money is really going? Ask your school administrators, your school unions, and your politicians.

And like big business they want to avoid lawsuits, so they would rather have a police force come in and take the heat for the discipline of 11 YEAR OLD CHILDREN. Insanity. So now they now have zero tolerance policies where a kid who brings a squirt gun to school is practically hung and quartered. Insanity. Yet the kid looks around and sees them bringing in guns…..guns to zap them. Insanity. Children are being accustomed to things like "lockdowns" and police-style brutality. Insanity. Schools are becoming more like prisons every year. Isanity. This is the result and outcome of liberalism. And it falls right in line with disarming the populace but allowing for government goon squads.

Ever wonder why private schools don't have this kind of problem?

LOL...am I an A-typical Texan or what? OR were you being sarcastic?

Fair enough, I respect your view, I'll just have to disagree and we'll leave it at that. You have your view and I have mine. But mine is right. (just kidding:cool: )

I didn't read the article.

Was the little girl smoking in class?

I'm not sure if that was a sarcastic remark or not...please explain.

If it was a serious remark...the little girl tried to push another student into a busy street. When the teachers and security gaurd took her to a classroom, she punched the security guard in nose and started hurling desks at them. (of course, nothing was stopping the SG or the teacher from leaving the room and locking the door.)
