I don't believe Hitler was as evil as he is portrayed by the victors of the war. Germany had stockpiles of nerve agents, and other chemical weapons, that Hitler could've used in Normandy during the invasion and he refused when advised to do that by his generals, due to the Geneva Convention that he signed. He refused to use chemical weapons, even in Soviet Russia, when he was losing the war. It was the Allies who used weapons of mass destruction despite Japan being defeated and ready to surrender.
