Your Job or Your Life

I do know that as an employee i have zero responsibility to protect the business.

Why dont all stores hire full time armed guards? Pay em handsomely too.
You're a living contradiction, init. In your previous post #81 you stated:

Then you say they should have security. Security guards are employees. Why hire them if they have zero responsibility to protect the business. SMH,

Im talking about a store clerk. Do you believe they are responsible for trying to stop a crime? I surely dont. Id accept monopoly money and complete the transaction, then call the police

The penalty for knowingly accepting counterfeit money is imprisonment for up to 20 years.

Is a minimum wage clerk expected to be a currency expert?

Many establishments require the clerks to use one of those counterfeit detector pens on certain denominations. They don't need to be currency experts.

It's often part of their training.
$10, $20, and above bills have a metallic strip embedded between front and back layers which can be seen when held up to a light.
It's a device hard to replicate when making counterfeit.
IIRC, the strip also IDs the denomination and can be read by a scanner, which would count how many bills are in a stack, like in a briefcase or luggage.

Most clerks are earning between $15-20 these days and when handling money for a living, they know what to look for. All $20, $50, and $100 bills get checked with either a counterfeit detection pen or a small light that shows the President's face embedded within the bill on the right side.

I actually took a one dollar bill passed to me that was identical to a real one, except it had "Motion Picture Purposes" across the top, like these...

They have a 'no fight' policy, and it can include taking counterfeit money and calling the cops.

I am glad the clerk is okay and was able to defend herself, don't feel sorry for the perpetrator that got shot, but if she had followed the policy, it could have been avoided. That is the intent of the policy.
Blame the victim.

I knew two people who were stabbed in the neck while working at stores. One lived one didn't. The only reason the one who lived lived was he was also an emt and immediately began treating himself. In that case the guy already had the money. He just turned around and came back and did it. The other guy they narrowed it down to a 10 minutes window between the time the last customer left the store and the time someone else entered the store and found him bled out.

I went on a course about counterfeit money. I can't remember much, they told us not to make notes.

So, I would like to know from the head of 7-11 if she should have accepted the counterfeit 100 dollar bill knowing it to be counterfeit to reduce the chance of a violent encounter and if she did, would they have fired her for accepting it.
My stance is that it doesn't matter what the rules are for the store, once the person starts choking you or shooting at you, no matter how cooperative you are, you are under no obligation to accept being murdered so that the store can simply say, "gee, we are so sorry for the loss of our employee," then hire a replacement victim. Your life is more important that a store's policy. Some other company needs to hire the employee for doing what was right and defending her life and the word needs to get out that no one should work for 7-11.
