Can you point to any "climate scientists" stepping up to the microphone and putting those who were making those predictions in their place? Any instance at all? Or were they content to let people believe the predictions.

There is a well known principle in law...silence implies consent. Since no "climate scientist" ever stepped up to the plate and said that the predictions were wrong, and that the people who were making them were misinformed, it is clear that climate science was on board with the claims.
