This is really pretty simple. People who are financially secure want their government to spend less and to tax less. People who aren't financially secure want their government to spend more (preferably on them) and they want the financially secure people to pay for it through higher taxes.

I want abortion to be a misdemeanor, couldn't care less if people use porn, couldn't care less what you do in your bedroom as long as you don't expect me to accept it as normal, pay for my own health insurance and medical costs and fully expect to take SS when I hit 67 in 4 years which is expected to be $3200 per month not including my wife's portion which is 50% of mine.
