Denying the success of the Republican southern strategy is a rather pathetic attempt to rewrite history. The Republican party made a concerted effort to attract the racists. It worked.

Now Trump, he's got a lock on the racist vote, no matter which party they come from.

Fact: The Ku Klux Klan was originally and primarily an arm of theSouthern Democratic Party, and its mission was to terrorize freed slaves and Republicans who sympathized with them.

Why is this fact conveniently omitted in so many popular histories and depictions of the KKK, including PBS documentaries? Had theKKKbeen founded byRepublicans, that fact would no doubt be repeated constantly on those shows.

Fact: In the 1950s, President Eisenhower, a Republican, integrated the US military and promoted civil rights for minorities. Eisenhower pushed through the Civil Rights Act of 1957. One of Eisenhower's primary political opponents on civil rights prior to 1957 was none other than Lyndon Johnson, then theDemocratic Senate Majority Leader.LBJ had voted the straight segregationist line until he changed his position and supported the 1957 Act.

Fact: The historic Civil Rights Act of 1964 was supported by a higher percentage of Republicans than Democrats in both houses of Congress. In the House, 80 percent of the Republicans and 63 percent of the Democratsvoted in favor. In the Senate, 82 percent of the Republicans and 69 percent of the Democratsvoted for it.

Fact: Contrary to popular misconception, the parties never "switched" on racism.

Following the epic civil rights struggles of the 1960s, the South began a major demographic shift from Democratic to Republican dominance. Many believe that this shift was motivated mainly by racism. While it is certainly true that many Southern racists abandoned the Democratic Party over its new support forracial equality and integration, the notion that they would flock to the Republican Party -- which was a century ahead of the Democrats on those issues --makes no sense whatsoever.

Yet virtually every liberal, when pressed on the matter, will inevitably claim that the parties "switched," and most racist Democrats becameRepublicans! In their minds, this historical ju jitsu maneuver apparently transfers all the past sins of the Democrats(slavery, the KKK, Jim Crow laws, etc.)onto the Republicans and all the past virtues of the Republicans (e.g., ending slavery) onto the Democrats! That's quite a feat!

Bullshit. We've done this to death, including in your own bullshit thread last week.

The Klan wasn't founded by any political party or any politician or anyone politically connected at all. It was founded by six bored young Confederate veteran soldiers. That Klan was extinguished by 1880 and would have been another historical footnote along with other such vigilante groups of the time including the Red Caps, White League, Men of Justice, Knights of the White Camellia and others. It was revived in 1915 by a salesman named William Simmons -- who also had no connection to politics.

Fact 2 -- the Democratic and Republican parties of the 19th century have no direct line of ideological descent to the same entities today. The RP when it was young was the party of Liberals, and thanks to the Whig element, the party of "big government". The DP was the home of "states rights", suspicious of a strong Fed. By the end of that century the RP had taken on the interests of the rich and corporations and the DP had absorbed the Populist movement -- which is why it attracted, and still holds today, constituencies of blacks, women, Jews, immigrants, etc --- all those groups the KKK was directly opposed to.

And finally, CRA 1964 -- actually more Democrats than Republicans voted for it but that's not what was significant -- what was significant was the regional split. The South voted overwhelmingly against it, everywhere else voted overwhelmingly for it.

These are still the same facts that they were last week Pinko, and there's not a god damn thing in the world you can do about that, so go fuck yourself.

The Johnson quote is faked. The only source of it is a kook wingnut author, Ronald Kessler, a piece trash so slimy that he now writes for NewsMax. The quote appears all over racist right-wing blogs, but it all traces back to Kessler. Needless to say, there is no other corroboration for that quote anywhere else. Kessler seems to have just made it up, one of the many hatchet jobs he's done against Democrats.

Naturally, the lack of any evidence for it being true means the righties all believe it even more. That's how their religion works; you get brownie points for showing you'll believe the craziest nonsense purely on faith.

The "facts" is it?

  • Who founded the Klan, Pinko? When? Where? I want names.

  • What was the percentage of Republican vs. Democrat votes on the CRA 1964 in the South and elsewhere?

His entire multi-toilet-bowl diarrhea here is entirely unlinked. Although I have no doubt it's plagiarized since it contains complete sentences.

Edit-- confirmed. It's lifted verbatim from another message board. Not allowed to point to it here but I've got it open in another tab and have reported it as such.

Yo, sorry, but the facts say your Party, The "Socialist Progressive Democrat Party is a Racist Party," and still today under their breath!!!

Hey, you were still in your old man when shit like this happened!

The "facts" is it?

  • Who founded the Klan, Pinko? When? Where? I want names.
  • Describe the attitude of the Republican and Democratic parties toward the gold standard. And tariffs.
  • What was the percentage of Republican vs. Democrat votes on the CRA 1964 in the South and elsewhere?
Let's see these "facts". Now.

Yo, ask your daddy? He might have been in the club? Most likely, since you turned out to be like him!!!

Kinda hard to answer when you have a dick in your mouth cut and pasted the entire thing from another message board and don't have a clue in the fucking world what you're talking about huh 1stRimjob?

So what's uh... the deal? (<< Pink Floyd reference)
Is there some reason you can't support these points since you absolutely wrote them all youself and it's a complete coincidence that some other poster on some other board named "Warrior Nurse" wrote exactly the same words on March 5 2014 at 2:42:28?

Hm?

Ooh, look how mad the libs get when you bring up their connection to the KKK. It's a legacy they are embarrassed by.
