Would you still be (insert religion here) if there was no paradisical afterlife described in it?

I don't believe in any afterlife. When you die, that's that. I still don't lie, cheat, steal, rape, murder because it simply isn't right to hurt someone else. I don't need the threat of eternal torment to keep me in line.
 
I'm an agnostic atheist. So I guess that question is obviously answered by definition.
 
Yes, I'd still be a Christian. The fellowship and community and service that generates from that congregation satisfies my soul while I can appreciate it. Salvation and damnation aren't as stresses as service and community. Heaven is what you make it.

I always thought it arrogant to think God's grace is available exclusively through accepting Christ as a personal Christ. Likewise I think it's baffling that, for some, the only way to get into heaven is to whisper "Jesus sent me" through a slot in the Pearly Gates.
 

As beautiful as they may be
to discuss imaginatively,
creation stories
and afterlife theories
do not hold meaning
within my spiritual journey...
