The money was going to go to needy students.
Way to regurgitate what Harvard and the NY Times told you.
You also told me Harvard was never taking the money and they could not 'give back' something they never had while the story you linked said they were taking the money until they got lit up for planning to do so.
in all fairness are you not regurgitating what your sources told you? again i don't know. i need to go read several sources and answer questions like the source of the money; the history behind this source, historical grants and uses, and how they were set to get it this time around.
once i understand shit like that, then i can know if they did something wrong or not. i'm not about to start screaming at THE MAN just because someone told me to. either side.
this article is doing a great job of keeping to facts, not assigning blame.
The New York Times article cited (linked) states Harvard knew they were getting millions and panned to use that money. That's not my link. That means Harvard fully intended to take the $8+ million in tax money...while sitting on an $8 BILLION endowment.
Does it really make a difference if they
fully planned to take it, had plans for spending it, and then changed their mind and decided not to take it after being pressured....or if they had
already taken the cash, planned to spend it, and decided not to use it after being pressured not to?
The bottom line is Harvard was going to spend $8+ million in tax dollars despite having a $40 BILLION endowment, and due to pressure from critics -0 to include the President - the Relief money will NOT be going to the richest university on the nation while Average Americans are suffering, just trying to make it by.
I don't care what 'NIT' anyone wants to 'PICK' in this story, this is a win for the American people / citizens / tax dollars.
-- I would have been more impressed with Harvard had they proactively stepped up and say 'We don't want / need the cash - use it for suffering Americans' rather than having to be 'bullied' / pressured into doing so.
