the lead House Republican for budget issues, Jodey Arrington, recently wrote, ‘Unchecked mandatory spending on programs like Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and welfare represent a growing threat to our economic security and potentially our way of life,’"
Republicans want to do away with Social Security. They just can't because it's too popular but eventually, they'll try. They've tried before. In 10 years I suspect 20% cut to social security in order to "save" the program.
Remember since the 80's Republicans have been saying don't count on it being there when you retire.
According to the Social Security Administration (SSA), estimates suggest that 18% of elderly beneficiaries are completely dependent on Social Security for their income. An AARP analysis found that about one in seven Social Security recipients ages 65 and older depend on their benefits for almost all of their income.
And then there's all the people who rely on SS to supplement their 401K. Probably 50% of Americans.
