The increase in CO2 and other GHG's have increased the temperature of the atmosphere and ocean. That means there is more energy in the atmosphere, so a more energetic atmosphere has higher wind speeds. And the weather records are proof of that. And that increase is good for wind farms, but bad for making wildfires unmanageable.CO2 does not cause wind to increase.
Between 2000 and 2022, 100-meter wind speeds over the U.S. have increased, especially in the western half of the country, where wind speeds increased from 3% to 7%. This positive impact on wind farms' power output is a result of the increasing wind speeds, which have been tracked over the last 22 years. The highest average wind speeds are found over the Great Plains, with Wyoming and New Mexico moving up in state ranking in the 22-year interval, surpassing North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota. Rhode Island ranks first in average wind speed, with 8.9 m/s average wind speeds; Utah ranks first in wind speed change from 2000 to 2022, up 6.4%. The U.S. energy transition is expected to increase the pace of building and connecting renewable energy, with the changing climate, both human-induced and natural, underlaying the energy transition.
