A cease fire would stop the killing of many Russians. It would stop the monetary cost of war.
If you are committed to peace, stop the fighting and work out an agreement.

You've made the mistake of thinking that Putin CARES about Russians being killed, Elmer! If he loses a million soldiers but it gets him his ultimate goal...which is a reconstitution of the old Russian empire...he wouldn't blink an eye. He's not committed to peace. Anyone who thinks he is...is naive.

What Putin does care about is keeping the Russian Oligarchs on his side happy which is why it makes sense to squeeze Russia from a financial point of view even more than a military one. If Trump can hit those Oligarchs hard in their wallets he may have a chance at getting a deal from Putin. Otherwise it's going to be one broken promise by Vlad after another.

Trump has no illusions about who Putin is at this point. I think he's making it clear to Putin that there will be a heavy economic price to pay if he doesn't come to the table and work out something with Zelensky. That's the only thing that Putin understands. The key to Putin has always been the Oligarchs that support him. As long as they're making money, they'll let Putin do whatever he wants...including going to war. If Trump can bring pressure to bear on them...then Putin will pay attention.
