Why would conservatives vote for DeSantis?

Serious question. DeSantis has done more than any other candidate or recent president to increase the power of the state over individual rights and no one seems to care. Is conservative ideology changed in terms of using the state to enforce it’s desired social outcome?
I am not sure I’d vote for DeSantis, Trump or Biden, I am hoping a better candidate steps up.

No, to remove blatant pornography from elementary school libraries. Your opposition to that tells us all we need to know about what you are...

Of the books banned between July 2021 and June 2022, 41% had LGBTQ themes, protagonists or prominent secondary characters, 40% had characters of color as primary or prominent secondary characters, 21% dealt with race or racism, and 22% contained sexual content.

For the record, I am Trump's 2nd-biggest fan. That said....

Trump has a very abrasive personality, and DeSantis is much better spoken. Trump makes everything about him, while DeSantis makes it about the people he represents.

Trump lost Miami Dade county by 7%. DeSantis won it by 9%. That's quite telling.

On the border, Trump built a wall and got slammed for it. DeSantis sent illegals to Northern Dem territory, and while he got some negative press for it, I think it was viewed less negatively by the Liberal media and was very effective at exposing both the crisis at the border and the hypocrisy of the Dems.

On COVID, Trump bowed to pressure to shut things down. He probably regrets that, since the Dems blame him for COVID deaths anyway. DeSantis did it too, but was among the first to give his constituents freedom from the COVID tyranny, and it has turned out to be wildly successful and Floridian children will be much better off for it.

I could go on at length (Disney, parents rights, etc.), but basically both Trump and DeSantis would be excellent choices from my perspective. DeSantis is more likable personally and younger; Trump is more powerful and boy will he be riled up for his 2nd term if there is one. I am a little concerned about DeSantis being weaker than Trump, and more of a RINO, but I should probably give him the credit he deserves.

I will be torn if I have to choose between them. They should team up. We could have Trump for four more years, and then DeSantis for eight more. Wouldn't that be GREAT? You'd love it, :) and America would rightly again become the most incredible superpower with a booming economy and world peace.

Regards,
Jim

Desantis pushes the right issues. He's clever

Because your overreach will lead to an unjust authoritarian society.
I wish I saw liberals pushing back against that overreach. All I hear is that they want to be the ones doing the overreaching.

I can still recall, when I was very young, when Democrats still talked about equal rights and civil liberties. But they've traded those in for "civil" rights and "equity" - which is essentially the opposite ideology. They despise individual liberty, seeing it as an inconvenient roadblock to their social engineering ambitions.

It's just hard to watch. Hardly anyone is actually arguing against the idea of overreaching government. They just want to be running the show.

Thanks! I appreciate tbe honesty and thoughtful answer :)

That is largely a matter of perspective. If you are ok with using the power of the state to clamp down on “rogue elements” …are you going to be ok when Dems are next in power and they do the same to “rogue elements”?

How do you square this with the Constitutional right of free speech?
Dems are in power in the institutions. Including k-12. They are the marxists. There is no truth in teaching that people of European ancestry are uniquely evil and racist. Indeed the opposite is true. Only in white west are we expected to allow all of the world to move here. The places these people come from would never accept 5 or 50 million whites. Ever.

I keep feeling like they don’t know what they want exactly and can’t seem to form a coherent message to reach and inspire people.

I think I can agree with that. It isn’t that I don’t value diversity (I do, whether it is ecological habitats, genetics, ideas or cultural) but the Dems have taken it to an Ivory Tower level inaccessible to most people by casting groups as oppressed or oppressor rather than, look guys we have a lot in common, but let’s celebrate what’s different). The Dems are leaving behind a great many who aren’t interested in DEI but just want someone to represent their interests and feel excluded.

But now, the Republicans are despising individual liberty as well and using the legislative arm of the state to force their social engineering.

It does rather seem that way.

But … I do not agree with a hands off government either…

That's the opposite of what you believe.
