Why we need to end the Death Penalty

Even the prosecutors admit they fucked up and he;s innocent, but they are gonna murder this autistic guy just because they can.

The judge who denied the stay and governor who denied clemency need to be next on death row for murder.
This is Texas today

They enjoy executing and will not miss a chance to kill someone

They are wrong far too often. It needs to stop.

They are made to appear to be wrong decades after the trials by selective information release.

DP opponents throw everything they can at the wall and watch to see what sticks.

They are also not constrained by legal regulations in their media blitz, so they can add and omit things as they see fit to match the narrative they are trying to push.

What's the difference between executing someone innocent after 25 years and them dying in Prison after 50?
They get to live

This man wants to live

It comes down to reasonable doubt

There is abundant reasonable doubt in this case

This is Texas.

Today they are executing a man for allegedly shaking his baby to death. Nobody saw him do it, he denies he did it. Doctors at the time determined the baby had all the signs of “Shaken Baby Syndrome”. A diagnosis that is now discredited.

Texas set to execute Robert Roberson despite strong evidence of innocence. What to know.

did he have a trial before a jury of his peers, was all the evidence presented? Did that jury find him guilty? if yes, then the system worked. if no, then his lawyer must call for a retrial based on new evidence.

LOL!!

At least I can spell correctly...
So can I.

I just have a larger vocab than you do. . . apparently? :dunno:

The problem with states like Texas is they seem to enjoy putting people to death. Once they get a conviction, there is no way they are going to reverse themselves.

In this case, all concerned in trying him admit they got it wrong. The medical science that was used to convict him is now discredited. At trial, witnesses claimed he showed no emotion over his child dying……he has since been diagnosed as Autistic who doesn’t show emotion.
This is a symptom of a larger problem wherin those in the "justice" system are thinking about their JOBS & CAREER.
Admitting mistakes goes against that grain for them, and they care more about covering their incompetent asses, than they do about any defendant.

This is what republicans do. Say what they mean but then say they didn’t mean what they said. Just kidding.

It’s too hard to tell when you’re joking.

Was trump joking when he said cops should rough up apprehended suspects?
:link: Comments without evidence don't carry much weight.

I do not believe anyone has the right to take the life of another outside of direct self defense so I do not need an example to support ending the death penalty.
The death penalty IS self-defense in preventive mode (ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure).

The list of convicted murderers who have gone on to kill again after imprisonment, is very long. If those killers had been executed, all those people would be alive today.

Imprisonment (instead of execution) is a RISK. (and a big one).

every guilty criminal has claimed innocence. that does not make them innocent. guilt is determined by a court and jury. the system works 99% of the time, when it doesn't there are procedures to retry the person, commute the sentence, or pardon the crime (as Biden will do for Hunter before he leaves office)

I think Abbott knows that those who thirst for the death penalty are a large part of his base.
He does not want to appear to be soft on capital punishment so will willingly allow an innocent man to be executed

Very true
But in this case, even the prosecutors admit that they made a mistake and medical experts say she probably died of pneumonia

Evidence ? :link:

Texas has the most executions since the death penalty was reinstated in 1976, with 598 as of August 2024. Oklahoma has the second-highest number of executions with 125.
