how about a Dem pres and GOP congress? worked well in the 90s, bureaucrats lost jobs, GOP cut spending, economy took off, budget was balanced

and karl rove wasn't hanging out on the hill threatening every two-bit GOP congressman if he didn't support W's latest big gov't program, GOP congress went from blocking spending under Clinton to supporting every big govt spending bill under W, they did much better as an opposition party

because they employed liberal dem fiscal policy, in spite of their party affiliations, fed spending as a share of GDP went up from 2001-2007 with gop pres and gop congress

worse now, they won't deal with major spending items, and instead are pushing this nonsense about "earmarks", which are a rounding error in the overall budget
