Why? The AZ Illegal Alien Law.

Arizona is overwhelmed with crime because of illegal aliens. It has made Arizona the leader in kidnappings for the country. The kidnappings along with shootouts between speeding cars on the streets of Phoenix, all part of the war between rival human and drug smugglers. Drop houses full of illegals being held for ransom by human smugglers are found on a regular basis. Two to three thousand dollars to get to Phoenix then to be held for ransom for another like amount from family to get their relative moved on to the final destination. Illegals forced to carry loads of drugs across the border, the drug cartels are in the human smuggling business also. Felony identity theft and making of false I.D. for illegals and the list goes on. Illegals are surrounded by major felony crime in getting them across the border and through Arizona. The costs of all this crime plus services illegals get with phony I.D. were astronomical for Arizona and all American taxpayers.

Arizona got to the point it had to do something because the Feds were not. The new Arizona Immigration Law is modeled after federal immigration law. Nine other states are looking into immigration legislation along the same lines as Arizona's SB 1070. Read the bill in the final version that the Arizona Governor signed. If you don't live in Arizona, especially Phoenix and Tuscon, you don't have a clue of the night mare those people leave daily. The crime is so bad, Arizona has been declared a state of emergency many years ago. Arizona had no choice. And the law does not go far enough to fight illegal immigration and it's crime.
