Why is it important that I vote in this election?

In close elections your vote may determine the outcome. We have heard that many times. However, the simple fact is that in this presidential election seven state will determine the presidency, Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. So if you live in New York, California, Texas, or Florida or any of the other 43 states, should I bother to vote. The answer is absolutely YES.

The major reason you should vote is that state and local elections will most likely have a greater impact on your life than who ends up being president. Just because a president promises to build a great wall on our borders, sign a bill making abortion legal, or provide tax cuts for families and small businesses does not mean it's actually going to happen. Such promises will be tempered by congress, existing laws, other items on the president's agenda, the practicality of the action, and of course unforeseen event such national disasters, wars, terrorism, epidemics, etc. However when you vote for a new bond issue for schools, fire and ems services, hiring more police, or programs to bring in more businesses, these proposals will likely have a direct effect on the taxes you pay, services you receive, property values, and jobs. Many people in general elections just vote for president, and maybe the governor or mayor, and skip the other stuff because it take more time to research.

So regardless of what you think of the presidential candidates, you should vote and don't skip the local and state elections and propositions because they will effect you.

The biggest problem in getting the poor to vote is getting them to polling places. In 2020 there were 132,000 polling places Today there are approximate 100,000. Most of these polling that disappeared were in low income neighbors that tend to be more democrat and more black than republican in Red States.

Beginning in the late 60's when the blacks started voting in numbers in the South, voting places were purposing not created in black neighborhoods to suppress the Black vote. Today red states in the south are suppressing votes again in much same way under the guise of making election more secure.

Do you realize how many times presidential candidates claim this election is the most important in our history? Yet for nearly 250 years, the country has survived and even prospered despite these dire claims. This election is no exception.

Globalization has been with us centuries increasing at various rates of speed. It has changed the world we live in. For all of us, jobs have changed, the way we trade has change, who we employ have changed, and even the feel of where we lived has changed.

We have gone much to far to think we can isolate ourselves from the rest of world. I was talking to a friend who does manufacturing, if you want to call it that. He buys his electronics designed in US from China, mechanical assembly is done in Mexico, programing is done by a small company in Florida. His company handles advertising, sales through 12 companies operating in 31 countries.

And you think Donald Trump is going to reverse any of this? Putting tariffs on exports from countries like China will just create a mountain of new regulations. It will force some companies to import from other low cost sources in countries such as Taiwan, the Philippines, or Mexico. Many large companies will continue exporting from China, preferring to pay a higher price for goods and passing the cost on to the consumer. The idea that it will rejuvenate US manufacturing is just not true. Most manufacturing in the US depend heavily on component manufactured abroad, China in particular. China can also retaliate economically and militarily.

I got a look at the sample ballot for my precinct a while back. All local precinct and county wide positions are unopposed so scratch that as a draw. My congressional Likud/MIC/Pharma sellout has only token dimocrap opposition who would be demonstrably worse. There are some judgeships that I haven’t any knowledge of so that leaves the odious Ted Cruz vs. Allred and the potus race.
Cruz survived last time because the retards ran the laughable fake Mexican. Allred is no better in any regard other than his campaign style isn’t as grating.
Texas is solidly red, in the non commie sense, and this CD even more so, and will carry for Cruz and Trump with or without me.

I live in a blue state. Harris will carry the state and most every state office is going to a Democrat. However I'm still going to vote for two reasons, proposition's on the ballot are going effect me and my family. Second, the number of votes a candidate gets is important. A large mandate, indicates that a candidate has the strong support of the people. That counts for a lot when the candidate is seeking support for issues he backs or getting support for re-election.

I've never understood the conviction that everyone should vote. Uninformed idiots shouldn't vote. People who disagree with me shouldn't vote.

If Trump is elected, I have no idea what he will do because he's a loose cannon whose becoming more senile and refuses to take the advice of others. Harris says she will hire the most knowledge and capable people even though they do share her beliefs. She has even promised to appoint a republican to her cabinet. Harris has always made decisions based on the advice of others. Trump on the other hand says his administration will be people he can trust. He just needs the facts and will make decisions based on his intuitions

I serious doubt either candidate will make any significant lasting changes on America.

Ummmmmmmmmm, I don't think you understood the OP. There are also state and local races on the ballot as well as state amendments. You can ignore the presidential election and vote for those. And if you are just talking about the duopoly there are several other options besides democrat and republican.
