Why doesn't meat help meat eaters be healthy?

Buttercup and CarlinAnnHarbor,

At this point I think you should consult with your pastors about this topic. A neutral but knowledgeable arbiter would be helpful. My guess is that he or she will tell you that it is not a significant spiritual issue at this time.

Sure, but there's more to it than that. Pull meat out of our economic Jenga and the whole thing collapses.

Yeah what would all those farmers who survive on government subsidies do?

Gee maybe instead of using 80% of our farmlands to grow feed for livestock they could actually grow food for people instead.

The livestock is part of food for people.

Only 41 percent.

There are problems with animal agriculture, but eliminating it isn't a good solution. When my house gets dirty, I clean it, I don't bulldoze it into the ground and go live in a tent.

Poor analogy.

Unless you think about it. The agricultural wealth of America is based on animals. Take away the animals and...poverty. :omg:
Bullshit.

Grow food for people instead.

And the meat industry is utterly dependent on government subsidies.

And let's not forget the damage the factory meat farming business does to its employees

physical injuries only scratch the surface of their suffering. A growing body of evidence has emerged surrounding the intense psychological toll that slaughterhouses have on the workers

Science would make artificial meat, which is less healthy than actual meat.

People don't need to work in a slaughterhouse to get screwed up in the head.

Food grain farmers get huge subsidies as well. Actually, producing meat is a way to market feed grains more profitably.

No need to make artificial meat =because meat is not necessary at all.

And if we're going to subsidize any food why don't we actually subsidize fruits and vegetables and actually make it cheaper to eat healthier?

The US could feed 800 million people on the grain used to feed livestock alone

It seems to me growing food for people is a better use of the land than growing food for animals in just about every metric

Why either/or. Why not a middle ground?

My diet is varied between whole grains, nuts, fruits, vegetables, dairy, and meats. Why take meat off my plate? Take meat off your plate, leave mine alone.

If you want to hunt go ahead I already said that.

If you want to eat a cow why don't you go buy a cow from a farmer and butcher it yourself?

Hell why not raise dogs are eat them it would be a lot cheaper than raising cows.

Why increase the use of chemicals on the land? Aren't we sick enough?

Agricultural animals provide much more than just meat.

Speaking of dogs, I know that the same people who want to eliminate animal agriculture also want to end the pet industry, as well as zoos. All animals are to be freed from human domination. No more cuddly pets, no more service animals, no more horseback riding, no more going to the petting zoo. Izzat you?

Not a world I want to live in.

This ball is in your court, not mine.

You don't have to use chemicals and are you so naïve as to think the meat you eat isn;t loaded with the chemicals used on livestock feed not to mention antibiotics and hormones?

All those things can be sourced from animals after they die a natural death

Without animal manures you have to use chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

Organically raise animals don't have those chemicals in their flesh.

But let's get real. Who do you want to stop eating meat? Americans, Christians, Chinese, Europeans...just who?

No one’s forcing anyone to eat meat if they don’t want to.

The world would be a better place if people just minded their own business

After reading this thread and feeling discouraged with people in general, Bob Barker just restored my faith in humanity.

I didn't even know he was an animal rights advocate, and strict vegetarian for more than 35 years! I'm not surprised at all he lived to be 99.

He is absolutely right in what he's saying in this clip:
