Couldn't you make the point this is worse than Welfare? How about socialism by leveling the playing fields affecting the poor and middle class only? That is unless you're dumb enough to believe the very wealthy pay for something. They sure as fuck don't, only the middle class and poor do. Consider this:
Person A earned 30K in 2018. They rec'd a big raise in 2019, and earned 50K. What an improvement and the future looks bright, and they're also eligible for a COVID entitlement just cuz.
Person B earned 70K in 2019, so they're not eligible for a COVID entitlement.
Person C earns more on unemployment than they did working, and received $3K more income for the year 2019. Eligible for a COVID entitlement.
Person D only likes to work part-time @ $50 an hour. Eligible for a COVID entitlement.
All will pay principle & interest & more (e.g., inflation & higher taxes) for "entitlements" of which only three receive benefit.
Also, which of those four scenarios deserves a COVID entitlement and why?
A correction. It is 75,000 in adjusted gross not 70. And then it phases down to zero for those making a hundred grand.
In the $1.9 trillion relief package under debate, the federal government is set to pay out $1,400 to individual Americans making less than $75,000 and $2,800 to couples earning less than $150,000 in
adjusted gross income (AGI). In the House version of the legislation passed on Saturday, stimulus payments would begin to phase out after those thresholds, stopping completely for individuals making $100,000 or more and couples earning $200,000 or more.
Some Senate Democrats have proposed curbing eligibility for a third stimulus check. But that means about 12 million American adults will lose out.

As for your other scenarios, if a guy is making 50 bucks an hour and they have a choice, it is nearly impossible to believe they would choose to work only part time. And almost NOBODY makes more on unemployment then they would working even at only $7.25 an hour. That would be $290 per week compared to the $151 they'd be making on unemployment. This right wing talking point that people are lazy and don't want to work is not true all or even most of the time as they suggest.
So EVERY Republicans voted against this bill, even though 3 out of 4 Americans support it. That makes no sense. Democrats can make serious hay of this stupidity considering Donnie's tax cut for Paris Hilton was 400 Billion more expensive and received 100% support from Republicans. Doesn't square.
