"Total Boomer Luxury Communism"

You have NO idea how hard I worked.

And you’re defending illegals and welfare mothers. You’re a nutcase.
You’re looking for a scapegoat.

40% of the federal budget goes to retirees who have simultaneously accumulated massive amounts of wealth.

We don’t have $38 trillion in debt because of mothers and illegals.

And you’re too stupid to recognize intelligence when you see it.
Ha! Coming from the person who spouts nothing but right wing propaganda from CIS and FAIR.

Boomers didn’t grow up in an environment where they had to learn source discrimination. Not only did they ruin our economy, they also took a sledgehammer to our media ecosystem.

When did the "learning" start?
Not only did they ruin our economy,
sure, first ya knock us...
they also took a sledgehammer to our media ecosystem.
then you honor us...

...and why is it your economy?...you can have the media ecocircus, in fact you are going to get the trump version...why the fuss though? look at it like an economic and media abortion, only this time it really will be affecting nothing more than a bunch of unthinking tissue masses and cell clumps. that should get your through this.

And you’ll get what you paid for.
No, it's what you tried to pay for.

That we would not consent to.

S.S. problems were built in from the start.

Some predicted this day. And they were right.

Or since the last time they had the courage to increase the retirement age, and increase the SS tax.
True. That’s the primary problem. When SS began, people retired at 65 and lived another several years - maybe even 15 if they were lucky. Nowadays, you have people living to 90, 95, and beyond - and SS was never calculated to fund a 30 year retirement.

The solution is to shift everything forward six months: early retirement at 62.5, full retirement at 67.5, and delayed retirement at 70.5. Then increase the SS tax by a) increasing the salary base on which its charged up to $200,000, and b) increase the tax rate by 1%.

Some? The government has been saying the trust fund would be exhausted around 2030 for the past thirty years.

This isn’t unexpected. Current retirees have had decades to prepare for the coming benefit reductions.
Most upcoming retiries don't have near enough saved to have a descent retirement even if there isn't a reduction (as in it seems many will be living on S.S. alone).

And it's the independent commission that has been saying it. Nobody in government is addressing it.

They'll simply borrow to keep benefit where they are.

We should lift the cap altogether.

But only if the federal government promises to balance the budget every year (and goes to jail or the gallows if they don't).

Did they just bank on being able to extract more cash from then-future workers at the ballot box?

The coming automatic Social Security benefit cuts will reduce the primary deficit by 70% in 2036, per the CBO.

Don't know.

I certainly don't have that strategy.

Yes, they are required. And the government will simply find a way to make up the difference. Everyone elected to congress around that time will likely be running on keeping payments where they are now. They'll simply find a different way.

Medicaid is 20% of the federal budget. Half of the spending is on elderly and disabled. 20% is on children. Of the adults on Medicaid, over 90% work.

You’re focusing on 3% of the Medicaid budget which constitutes 0.6% of the federal budget.

People like you should have their benefits ended so we can focus on those who actually need it.

How old are you?

For me, personally, I would have been much better off without Social Security and just investing my contributions. I’ve run calculations, and my income from those savings would be almost TWICE what I get from SS now.

I won't run calculations. If I actually add it all up, I will probably start drinking.

I'm 43. I would prefer to we eliminate SS altogether and let people be responsible for their own retirement.

Yes.

I’d be for that as well, but two issues:

1) You can’t pull that on current retirees or those near retirement.

2) You’d still be left with a large group of irrrsponsible people - even those who earn $100,000+ - who will spend like there’s no tomorrow, and they’ll end up at age 65 with $10,000 saved for their golden years (if that), and they will cry that they have no money, can’t afford rent, can’t buy groceries, no way to pay next month’s heating bill, etc., etc., and bleeding heart liberals will end up bailing them out, and using the money from the responsible people.

I don't care. At this point, I simply don't give a damn.
