You have it backwards. You say that the state gets to decide who gets married and forces gay marriage on individuals who think it's wrong.

It is the right to form a family that you, as an individual is seeking to deny other individuals. Families are the cornerstone of our society and you would deny ability to gay people. What about their rights as individuals.

It makes no appreciable difference to the lives of straight families if gays get married. It doesn't change or diminish my marriage in any way. When that ruling happened, we shrugged and said that's nice and went on with our lives.

For my gay friends, this was a huge event. Long-time couples no longer feared being shut out of end of life care by non-accepting family members. They could celebrate finding a life partner with their friends and family. They gained spousal coverage for group benefits.

In ways large and small, this decision enabled gay people to form families with all the same rights to care for one another, that straight people take for granted.

Allowing gays to marry isn't imposing anything on your rights whatsoever. But it denies those who are gay, the right to form a family, so they cannot fully participate in society.

Those who oppose gay marriage are not the individuals who rights are being denied. It's gays who aren't allowed to marry whose rights are denied.
