The usual complaint from libs about conservatives is that they seek to impose their views. Like everything else this is true, but only about libs. Consider gay marriage. Many states voted to amend their constitutions or enact other legislation that defined marriage as one man one woman. Libs werent successful making their case to the public (it was a loser issue at the pols) so they whined to some activist judges, who imposed gay marriage over the will of the people.
Oh, Rabbid, the thing is, we have a constitution that gives rights to individuals. If a majority of a state voted to confiscate your guns, you'd be pointing at the Second Amendment and saying, "See, see...this give me a right to my gun">
"Really, are you in a well-regulated militia?"
Or consider the Oregon bakers, whose business has been destroyed by lesbians offended that they wouldnt bake their wedding cake. And the bakers arent bigots, as often assumed. The lesbians picked the place because they were frequent customers there.
Isn't an argument there. Public Accommodation Laws say they have to serve any customers who have the money for services they offer. This has been black letter law for 50 years.
Or look at the demonization of smoking and smokers, who are considered one step above child molester in the media.
Why is this a partisan issue? Most conservatives don't want to try to eat their dinner in a room full of cigarette smoke, either. You do realize that smoking is bad for you, right? Now, I think a lot of the science on second hand smoke is dubious. But most folks have no problem with smoke-free workplaces. Maybe you need to talk to your big corporations, they were for it before the government was.
Or Common Core, which seeks to impose a national standard on what has traditionally been a local issue.
and why is this a bad thing? Are you saying that a HS Diploma from Florida should be worth less than one from Illinois? The USA drags behind every other industrialized nation in math and science. All those countries have national standards.
