Your question is based on a misconception. In terms of priority, God's job here is to save souls. The priority is to count how many will wind up in hell, not how many would die of disease. So if the atheists keep attacking God from all directions without them repenting, the number of souls reaching hell will increase. Part of this attack is from human arrogance (atheists keep bring up science non-stop), covid-19 simply makes arrogant humans helpless and despair. Humans (some of them) will rethink (I actually like your remark that "Maybe this can get you thinking"). A portion of these rethinking people may turn to God.

In terms of physical death, it maybe in a situation that more deaths won't affect the number of people saved and the number of those wound up in hell. If 10000 people died of covid-19 or not, 10% of them are saved. If 100,000 died of old age or not, 10% of them saved. It won't make a difference. Covid-19 on the other makes some people rethink, so after the rethinking process, 10,000 people died there could be 11% saved. That's the math.

This is also math,
if 10,000 died of covid-10, 10% of them are saved (they are Christians). If these 10,000 are allowed to die of old age, only 9% of them are saved as a result of atheists attacking God which caused some Christians being converted to atheists. The question boils down to how many atheists today are ex-Christians? Comparing to 50 years ago, how many atheists were ex-Christians back in 1970?
