Why can't Republicans Pass an Acceptable Extension to the Temporary COVID Supplemental Subsidies?

Red districts are 57% of the ACA recipients. That's why there is panic about it in the GOP. The GOP is balancing the hate it has for the everyday American and the need it has for their racist motivated votes. Its a delicate balance.
I"m not seeing the panic anywhere but among democrats who are panicking that the subsidies will expire and the sky will not fall.

Sen. Bill Cassidy says "there's a deal to be had" on health care after failed Senate votes

Dec 14, 2025
"After plans put forward by GOP Sen. Bill Cassidy failed in the Senate, Cassidy told "Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan" that "there's a deal to be had here -- we need to push for that deal."

This posturing will not lead to a deal. But it is smart politics.

By bringing up an idea like this, completely different from anything that has been discussed before, and atthe last minute, Cassidy can later say "you should have listened to me."

So no matter how it goes, he can claim not to be responsible.

If it will be such a tragedy, I wonder why Dems capitulated so easily on the shutdown.

Their base ACA dolees will stay home, figuring 'why vote for them, if they give up so easily?'

More importantly, the millionaires and billionaires who get the ACA supplements will not be donating big bucks to the DNC this year.

I guess that is the main reason that Democrats are panicking.

Sure. I give you data and you make shit up. Then why is the GOP panicked?
What you gave wasn't data.

"In red states, there are approximately 49 million registered Democratic voters. This figure indicates that the Democratic Party has a significant presence in these states, historically holding an edge over Republican voters."

World Population Review

There are only 42 million on subsidized insurance. Waddya bet most are Democrats?

Some Republicans are panicking because they believe that the public might blame them for the mess.

Republicans will support an extension or lose the House next year. Helluva hill to die on.
It would be a good one. It’s time for the Republican Party to start finding hills they’re willing to die on if they actually want Conservstives and America Only voters to continue supporting them.

Extended them "for political purposes"? Cancelling millions of impoverished and struggling people's healthcare is deeply unpopular. How's that for political? Midterms are going to be a bloodbath so why not just go full retard and cancel them? Go ahead GOP.

Nobody is cancelling anyone's healthcare. Just like anything else, pay for it, or don't receive it. I live in a truck 25 days a month to pay 120 dollars a week for my health insurance. Before Biden took office it was 50 dollars a week. Under Biden, it more than doubled. Do I like it? No. But I bust my ass and pay for it myself. I don't rely on others. But of course, I'm a republican.

We'll see if that happens.

If that is a realistic possibility, why do you think the Republicans are not passing an extension?

No doubt it is because they know that anyone freeloading off of the ACA supplemental subsidies is unlikely to be a Republican voter anyway.

But the hardworking Americans who Democrats expect to pay for all their second hand generosity? Yes, they are Republican voters who would stay home if Republicans started acting just like Democrats.
We need to dig deeper. There are millions of unfilled jobs that would offer great health insurance benefits.

You and your source are engaging some distortion/mis-statement.
From your link;

Nearly six in ten Marketplace enrollees (57%) live in congressional districts represented by a Republican. Generally, enrollment in ACA Marketplace coverage by congressional district is largest in the South. At least 10% of the population is enrolled in ACA Marketplace plans throughout all congressional districts in Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, and South Carolina, along with almost all in Texas and Utah.
MAP
While a relatively small share of the national population gets their coverage through the ACA Marketplaces, in some districts, the number of ACA enrollees could be enough to swing a close election. ...
...

Looking at the interactive map included in this article, only seven mostly Southern states are mostly the black color that would be 10% +. This doesn't seem to back-up the author's claim about 57%. Would seem the article is trying to imply this 57% figure is a nation wide data but it isn't documented or actually proven in the article.

Let me help you. They looked at the congressional voting districts that went for Trump and added up ACA enrollment. Youre welcome.

Still making a claim without proof or documentation.
Your link also made the claim, but didn't "show the math".

Here is the data that you can see in an excel spreadsheet: I highlighted the part of the page that you have to click on to download it.
