We lost our moral high ground with "enhanced interrogation techniques". The faux outrage expressed over human rights violations rings hollow.

Why do you and the other crazy right wingers always comport Communism with totalitarianism and the despots who rule by the iron fist. Simply because a nation purports to label itself a People's Republic or a Socialist or Communist one doesn't mean anything. As with any politician (pol) we need to watch not what a government says about itself, but what it does.

Conservatives cannot be blamed for inertia, it is the voters who allow it. At least in democratic republics the people have a say, at least those who follow the advice above.

However, in order to remain self sustaining, they must constantly spread fear and distrust of an enemy, any enemy, so that the beast can continue to thrive.
