Apparently Bernie Sanders will be giving a major address on this subject soon. I'll let him tell you what his term democratic socialism means. If you have the courage of your conviction you will at least give a listen.

But to reiterate, the items I listed are democratic socialist programs, administered democratically and paid for collectively with our taxes.

By the way, just for your info, I've been self employed for 39 years, never been on welfare or taken any government subsidies. I definely believe in free enterprise and regulated capitalism. I also believe in democratic socialism including all the items I listed.
