Los Angeles was never a jewel. If you want a city as the jewel of the United States, it would have to be San Francisco, the way it was before it was destroyed. It was one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

The tremendous city of East St. Louis was deemed the "All America City" back in the 1950's, and now is considered dumpy just like LA, Chicago, Detroit. ESL is controlled by the far left.
