Who is Jewish?

If you are looking for justification for your bias, you will find it since there is plenty of unfounded bigotry out there.
If you have no bias, you will not be looking for justification in the first place.

I have had countless Jewish friends over the years, and what has always united us is our shared affection rather than some obscure references to ancient events.

It is indeed sad, is it not, that there are still Christians today who are calling Jews nasty names (i.e., “anti-Christ” people) and moaning about a small band of Jews - 99% of the Jews of his time had never even heard of Jesus - angry at him for something-or-other and possibly having a role in his crucifixion, from 2,000 years ago.

In Revelation 2:9 and Revelation 3:9, who is John of Patmos calling the impostors in the Jewish community?

Once, not even that long ago, I would have said the Zealots and other Jewish insurrectionists. Jesus said their generation was wicked (Mt 12:39; 16:4; Lk 11:29). Josephus said they were guilty of the greatest madness (Wars 7.8.1).

But were the Zealots and Idumeans the subjects of John’s accusation? Maybe it was all the Jews who did not follow Christ? The Judaizers and even the moderate Jews?

In its historical context, Revelation is easy to comprehend. This is perhaps my one lingering question.

One answer will be found in the books of Ezra & Nehemiah concerning the return of Judah to Jerusalem to rebuild the city. This occurs after or towards the end of the Babylonian captivity. Both Prophets were very angry or vexed knowing that the men of Judah had taken on non-Israelite wives from the peoples of Canaan, Egypt, and several others. But, as you mentioned, the Edomites (Idumeans who were genetically related to Jacob/Israel) also play a role.

So some modern Jews are admixtures of Canaanites, Edomites, Perizzites, Moabites, and others who intermarried with the men of Judah. While most modern Jews are direct descendants of the Khazars (Ashkenazi) who converted to Judaism in the 7th & 8th centuries, A.D.

So was Jesus speaking of people who existed at the time Revelation 2:9 & 3:9 were penned or are those verses prophetic and speaking of them "who call themselves Jews" today and who worship in synagogues? Possibly both but I lean towards the latter conclusion.

The reason for the antisemitism differs depending on whether the antisemite is on the right or on the left.

Antisemites on the right: On the right, as Carl, Saxon, and other fundamental Christians show, it’s all religion-based. They smear and denigrate Jews living in the 21st century because a small little group of 1st century Jews were angry at Jesus, and might have influenced his crucifixion. Basically, 2,000 years ago, when there were about 5 million Jews, 0.0001% of them hated Jesus. The other 99.999% never heard of the guy.

Antisemites on the left: Today, most of the antisemites are on the Left, screaming “Death to Jews,” bullying the Jewish kids, setting up “No Jew Zones,” etc., etc. The root of these antisemites is their resentment that a small little tribe, subjected to the worst persecution and bigotry for 2,000 years, manages to rise above to become above-average in achievement: Nobel prizes, educational attainment, income, whatever. It shows that with the right attributes and choices in life, racism or bigotry does NOT hold people back. IOW, it reveals the lie to the Left’s insistence that blacks are mired in poverty due to racism.

Are modern Jews FOR Christ? Do they follow Him or believe in His divinity? Or do they deny Him? According to Jesus:

Matthew 12:30, "He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad."

And according to Paul the Apostle:

2 Corinthians 6:14-17, "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you."

Well, your take is contrary to what the Bible says. Thus your 'take' means nothing to me.

I showed in post #(8) that being a child of Abraham means nothing to God. One is not a true Jew/Israelite unless he is a 'child of promise' as Isaac was. Many are born in Israel who are not children of promise. They are not Jews/Israelites as far as God is concerned. And his 'concern' is overall.
