Who Here Has Had Enough of the Two Party System?

Is it time to ditch the two party system?

  • Yes. The two-party pissing match is destroying the country.

  • No. The two party system is good for America.

  • It's different when my side does it!

Results are only viewable after voting.
No. I would want a constitutional amendment banning both political parties, and political lobbying.
So how many people would be on the ballots? Hundreds? Thousands? For each elected position.
Constitutional amendments won't happen. 38 states would need to agree to it.
There is nothing wrong with the current system.
There is more of a problem with MSM bias and covering proposed policies honestly.
Debates are the best method for getting to see who is the better candidate.
I agree that there is too much money in politics, but the USSC already said that is "free speech".

There is nothing wrong with the current system? What? The system is corrupted from the core, both the bias, the system, and the people. Everything is wrong with it.

If money was the deciding factor, Hillary would have won in 2016.
2016 was a rare exception, where the people finally had enough and saw an outsider candidate. The desire for it was so strong that it overcame the system.

So how many people would ....
If you like it the way it is, fine. Most of us don't. Most of us look at "Trump vs Harris" and want to vomit. Most of us recognize this current system as utterly dysfunction, even those who still cave and vote D or R anyway.

Exactly. And I see no point in discussing the details of reform with people who can't see that.

I voted for Trump because the two options had two shit candidates, and Trump was the best of the two. That doesn't mean that I am a Trump superfan, or anything like that. I have no party loyalty to anyone. If the Democrats had good ideas, I would gladly vote for them, just that this system has condensed into "voting for the lesser of two evils" rather than being enthusiastic about it.

Yes. Lesser-of-two-evils (we really need name for it that's easier to type ;) Lo2e?) is the lynch pin of the two party system. And those invested in one of the dominant parties will defend it because it's how they sell their bullshit. Fear mongering, especially in the days of social media, is just much easier that coming up with good candidates and good ideas.

:desk:

But the fact that no third party of consequence is anywhere to be seen tells us that Americans don't care enough to do anything about this ******* disaster.
That, and the rules are written by the duopoly and for the duopoly.

2024 happened because the MSM. i.e. the "free press" failed to do its job.
Instead of calling Biden senile and incompetent they covered up for him.
Morning Joe said "this is the best version of Biden ever".
Democrats should have had a real convention and picked a better candidate, that is on them.

In 2028 democrats will have another chance, I'm hoping that they are still dysfunctional.

The system is perfect. The people are corrupt. There is no way to fix that.

So we wouldn't be allowed to ask our representatives to change or pass a law?

15th post
You want to make lobbying illegal. Lobbying is asking our representatives to change the law
I mean foreign lobbyists, and lobbying on behalf of massive corporations to buy elections.

Parties shouldn't be enshrined into law, regardless of the number.

But it sounds like you're fine with two opposed factions. You even think it's a good thing. That's fine. I don't. I think the founders who warned against it were correct.

You have a childlike vision.

You want politicians to only pass law that the people want (you have said that)
The People are diametrically opposed - so that is a problem,

Let's say that the members of this group are all elected to the house - under no political party affiliation

Do you not think that I know who in this group I can definitely work with, can maybe work with, and who must be opposed entirely?
