Yep. The Generals testified that with 20 or 25 thousand fresh troops we could have driven the Taliban out of Kabul. Of Course with the high rate of casualties expected and the fact that the Taliban were still honoring the cease fire or truce the Trump negotiated, that would been extremely stupid, unless we were planning on re-invading, which nobody but those Generals wanted.

My undersanding was Trump agreed to May 1 and Biden delayed that despite the Taliban's unhappiness. But to be honest, imo,it was going to go balls up because we never should have nation built. Mainly I blame W. WHOM I VOTED FOR. Obama should have left after bin laden was killed in his first term. Trump should have completed his surrender and not handed it off to Biden. The evacuation was planned and carried out by the military in broad daylight as well under cover of darkness depending on what the commanders in the field decided.

After the Trump flip flop from complete withdrawal to the Minimal number of troops, the Generals were not asked by the CiC to formulate any new plan based on leaving that few, 2500 troops on Jan 15th 2021. Those decisions and planning were punted to the next administration the following week.

The State Dept has had a do not travel warning in Afghanistan since the Trump admin. They were told to leave as soon as they could in April. The government doesn’t follow Americans around overseas booking plane tickets for them.

It does matter because waiting till Sept gave the Taliban time to make it to the capital. Look at where they were in May, they still had more than half the country to take over to get to Kabul.
