The FBI is rightfully loathed by freedom-loving Americans right now. Its leadership is riddled with agents who view the bureau as an intelligence-gathering organization dedicated to helping favored political leaders and harming disfavored ones.
As it was in the days of J. Edgar. Nothing is new, here.
The FBI has always relied on a movie and then television industry who portrayed them as these crime-fighting heroes. Many individual agents are exactly that. But more than half of the bureau's funding is spent on intelligence when they are not even allowed to operate outside the U.S. So that leaves Americans as their targets.
Maybe Patel will be able to get them under control, but I'm not holding my breath. He'll be fighting an uphill battle, and the media will make heroes of every freedom-hating agent, SAC, or assistant director he fires, no matter how rightfully.
