When Your Son Goes MAGA

"When Your Son Goes MAGA
Some liberal parents face a new, unexpected challenge: how to talk to their children who voted for Donald J. Trump.

It is easy for Alex Behr to gush about her son, Eli, whom she describes as a generous and thoughtful college junior who had a serious skateboarding phase.

It is much harder for her to talk about his politics. Ms. Behr, 59, is a Democrat in Portland, Ore., who voted enthusiastically for Vice President Kamala Harris in the November election. She and her ex-husband were appalled that Eli, 20, decided to cast his first vote in a presidential election this fall for Donald J. Trump.

When Eli brought a ā€œMake America Great Againā€ hat home from college this summer, Ms. Behr threw it into the corner of his bedroom. They argued about guns, immigration and abortion, struggling to do so without permanently damaging their relationship.

ā€œfacts don’t matter to you,ā€ Ms. Behr wrote in a moment of frustration during one text exchange about Mr. Trump’s legal battles. ā€œlove you. have a good day.ā€"

Young Americans want a bright American dream future with MAGA, not the managed decline of the Marxist Democrats and Rinos.

Conservative kids of leftist parents are at risk of violence.

My advice to parents is let your children grow. They don’t have to vote the same way you do. They don’t have to believe the same things you, do my children agree with some things I do and other things I don’t when it comes to political issues. That’s fine, I raised them with knowledge and to thank for themselves even if that meant they disagreed with me on occasion as long as they came to me with a good argument, I’m OK with that. None of us are always 100% correct. Now I’m an independent who leans right on some issues and left on others. My children are the same and sometimes we disagree, but we don’t argue about it and I sure as hell wouldn’t send a text pissed off because somebody I voted for didn’t win and they supported the oppositional candidate. I have great disdain for all politicians, most self-serving people on the planet. Can’t trust any of them, that is fact.

One of the perversities and disappointments of life is that you cannot make your offspring LIKE what you like, BELIEVE what you believe, or BEHAVE as you behave (and want them to behave).

One of the most often stated questions of the parents of adults is, "Where did I go wrong?"
I mentioned in a thread here a while back that Liberal parents tend to raise conservative kids and visa-versa due to teenage rebellion. Many people scoffed.

It's possible a lot of people scoffed because you used generalizations in your statement.

Many parents are stupid and don't know the difference between telling their children something and teaching their children.
Many parents try to express their ideas on Conservatism or Liberalism ... And it resembles a dog chasing a ball down the street.
They present a plethora of ideological views ... Driven by media garbage ...
And lacking any substance or true understanding of the principles involved.

Teens ... And being rebellious as you mentioned ... Can easily debate or discard a vapid presentation.
It was easier to accept what my parents were teaching us ... Because they weren't stupid, knew what they were talking about ...
And it was more about principles than politics.

What I am getting at is that your conditions stated would be adequate ...
But based more on stupid or incompetent parents than rebellious children.

I've yet to read about a parent with a child raising degree. So, you have a fairly valid point. But "principles" can easily be used to determine political lean.

Yeah ... I really wasn't talking about raising children as much as whether or not a parent is smart enough to articulate
the principles behind what they believe ... Past the utter garbage society promotes as reasonable points of discussion.

Point in case ... I can give you the principles of Marxism and Capitalism ... But that's not going to tell you which way I lean.
I am Classical Liberal ... And most people don't know that makes me more Conservative than a Modern Conservative.

That's because they don't know the difference between a Classical Liberal and a Progressive Liberal ...
Add the fact the Authoritarian Fascists on the left decided to start calling themselves Liberals.

According to your text alignment, you're really a centrist.

If you don’t mind me asking, what issues do you lean left on?
I am pro choice not an abortion fan, but I’m never gonna be a 16 year-old girl that has to make a decision that will impact her life for the rest of her days. I will never have to make that decision as a man I support religious peopleā€˜s rights. I’m registered in one of the oldest Catholic churches in Detroit and Minneapolis as a Catholic, but realistically, I’m agnostic. But there could be a higher power, but I am agnostic, I’ll never know until I die.I’ve been all over the world spent 12 years in Asia, Thailand mostly off and on .I love Buddhism live and let live. I have no problem with gay marriage, my youngest brother one of the twins was gay, and I was OK with that. People deserve to be happy. Life is short. I’m the oldest of 4 boys and they all looked up to me. There are a lot of heterosexual parents that are worthless, I have no problem with gay couples adopting children. Children without a home, deserve to have a happy life. Now I am tired of this debt. I’m tired of illegal aliens coming over the border. I busted my ass as a young person to get through college. I paid my college off and I’m doing well now but during it, I lived in a car off and on, so I don’t wanna hear about hard times from idiots today How hard life can be. They have no clue. You build yourself or you don’t that’s how life is it’s called the pursuit of happiness, not guaranteed happiness. I am never going to give control of my life to politicians or government never.

Right. So if in four years they’re struggling and not saving enough to buy a home, and retire by 67…

Republicans will try to convince them that buying a home is over rated. Just like their solution to college costs is don’t go.

Trump's in charge now, so Bidenomics is no longer crashing young Americans.

It happens. My husband's brother R.I.P. was a diehard Reagan conservative as are two of his five boys. The other three are pretty liberal. The son of one of those was an Occupy Wallstreet protester and I'm not sure he's not ANTIFA now. I'm hoping he outgrew that phase.

Similarly Hombre and I started out as common sense conservative Democrats but the party had pretty much driven those out by the Reagan years. As the party left us, we reregistered Republican and have never had reason to look back though we consider ourselves Independent now. The Democrat Party offers us nothing we can embrace and a whole lot that we despise.

We raised our kids to be critical thinkers and our son is a smart savvy well educated conservative and a very successful engineer.

Our daughter has worked pretty much her whole adult life for government and is also very successful in her field. But she is a PhD sociologist who doesn't have a clue why any of the rest of us would even consider voting for Trump over Kamala.

And the only way to keep peace in the family is to avoid talking government or politics in any way when she is around. :)

It's suddenly 'cool' to be conservative. That being said, today 'conservative' is what we used to call normal middle-of-the-road before the far-left, radical, Marxist influenced Democrats stole the party.

It's funny how one liberal can ruin good humor and real relationships.

At least that identifies the problem and who is at the root of it.

I have a neighbor whose progressive daughter wants to share her ideas ... Until anyone has a conflicting idea.
Then she comes unglued ... Rants and raves at the family, before squealing tires on the way out the driveway.
She's got a PHD in Psychology and works for the State.

The funny part ... Is how stupid they think you are ... When they have degrees in the Liberal Arts ...
And almost totally lack self-awareness and the ability to apply critical thinking towards their own ideology.

That's why I gave up on the industry after getting my degree in Psychology.
I saw where all that mess was going ... Disagreed with most of it ...
And recognized a bunch of nit-wits patting each other on the back and telling each other they were smart ... :auiqs.jpg:

I can see why young impressionable people would buy in. I see it with my nephews.

Let’s see if republicans can keep their support.

If they make good money under trump they will
One of the Republicans' biggest weaknesses is their messaging. They sometimes play politics too hard and are timid in saying what they mean.

But they are getting some better now that they are allowing Trump to lead. His own messaging could use some work now and then, but timidity is not one of his faults.

If we on social media will stay intellectually honest and tell it like it is in simple English without excessive passion and the Republicans/Patriots given opportunity for face time on TV will do the same, they will keep the young people just as Reagan did.
