Author William Dankenbring wrote an article decades ago that
pointed to the 6000 years from Adam and Eve perhaps having been up
around the year 1996. Evangelist Dankenbring used the Book of Jasher to back
up this calculation.
If I remember correctly it may have been William Dankenbring who wrote that
around the time of the Bar Kochba Revolt Rabbi Akiva felt that saving "Judaism" as
he understood Rabbinic Judaism, would require some drastic measures on his part?
During the time of John the Baptist and Rabbi Yeshua - Jesus apparently it was common knowledge that
the 4000 years from Adam and Eve had arrived, [perhaps around four B. C. E. when John the Baptist and
Rabbi Yeshua - Jesus were both born]?
But apparently Rabbi Akiva around the time of the Bar Kochba Revolt, got Rabbinic Judaism onto a different way of numbering the years from Adam and Eve,
[partly in his efforts to prevent all Jews from switching over to Messianic Judaism as perhaps four hundred
thousand Jews living in the Holy Land had already done]?
Prophet Kim Clement compared Donald John Trump with King David even before he became President of the USA. This topic fits with the idea that IF it is true that King David may have reincarnated in our time period, could President Donald John Trump be King David back with us again, [perhaps much as John the Baptist of the time of Rabbi Yeshua - Jesus was somehow the Elijah type of person for that time period]? So IF Mr. Donald John Trump was King David back again then something significant must have happened in his life around 1996?
I believe that the Dr. Ian Stevenson research fits perfectly with the "Gilgul Cycle" of Judaism. The Latter day Saint doctrine of "Multiple Mortal Probations" that some branches of the LDS also teach, sounds a lot like what the Jews teach on this subject.

[Sid Roth] :
The first Church was Jewish. If a Gentile wanted to follow the Messiah, he had to convert to Judaism. Then Peter had a revelation that Gentiles did not have to convert to Judaism to be saved (see Acts 10). The Jerusalem Council meeting determined that Gentiles did not have to be circumcised. There were only four easily followed requirements. They were to abstain from things polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from things strangled, and from blood (Acts 15:20). After all, James said, they could learn more about God by hear- ing the words of Moses every Saturday in the syna- gogue (see Acts 15:21). This opened the door to widespread church growth among the Gentiles. So many Gentiles were saved that the Jewish believers became a minority.
The first Jewish followers of Jesus were called Nazarenes (part of the Essenes sect of Judaism dis- cussed in Chapter 3). They practiced traditional Judaism and were widely accepted by unbelieving Jews. Early in the second century their numbers reached 400,000.1 In the Book of Acts, the early church fathers said to Paul: You see, brother, how many myriads [tens of thousands] of Jews there are who have believed, and they are all zealous for the law (Acts 21:20).
The Nazarenes acceptance by traditional Jews came to a halt in A.D. 135 when Rabbi Akiba declared that Bar Kochba was the Jewish Messiah. His followers hoped he would lead them to victory over the Romans. The Nazarenes refused to fight because they believed Jesus was the true Messiah rather than Bar Kochba. They were branded traitors, not because they believed in Jesus, but because they would not join Bar Kochbas armed struggle. Bar Kochba and his followers were quickly slaughtered by the Romans. Afterward, Jews were banned from Jerusalem.
History shows that as the center of the Christian faith moved from Jerusalem to Rome, it became increasingly Hellenized, adopting pagan customs and philosophies rather than the God-ordained practices and beliefs of the Bible. At the same time, Christianity became increasingly anti-Jewish."
[Sid Roth from his book The Incomplete Church, Chapter 7, page 64, 65]
Messianic Jewish author Sid Roth gives the statistic of 400,000 for the number of Messianic Jews, [followers of Rabbi Yeshua - Jesus], living in the Roman Province of Judaea at the time of the Bar Kochba Revolt.
If Sid Roth's statistic is correct could the Palestinians of this last century be largely descended from the first century followers of Rabbi Yeshua - Jesus who DID NOT join in the Bar Kochba Revolt and thus were allowed to stay in Roman Judaea and grow olive oil and grain and wine and pay taxes to Rome?

15Again the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 16“As for you, son of man, take a stick for yourself and write on it: ‘For Judah and for the children of Israel, his companions.’ Then take another stick and write on it, ‘For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel, his companions.’ 17Then join them one to another for yourself into one stick, and they will become one in your hand.
18“And when the children of your people speak to you, saying, ‘Will you not show us what you mean by these?’— 19say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Surely I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel, his companions; and I will join them with it, with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they will be one in My hand.” ’ 20And the sticks on which you write will be in your hand before their eyes.
21“Then say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Surely I will take the children of Israel from among the nations, wherever they have gone, and will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land; 22and I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king over them all; they shall no longer be two nations, nor shall they ever be divided into two kingdoms again. 23They shall not defile themselves anymore with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions; but I will deliver them from all their dwelling places in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them. Then they shall be My people, and I will be their God.
24“David My servant shall be king over them, and they shall all have one shepherd; they shall also walk in My judgments and observe My statutes, and do them. 25Then they shall dwell in the land that I have given to Jacob My servant, where your fathers dwelt; and they shall dwell there, they, their children, and their children’s children, forever; and My servant David shall be their prince forever. 26Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them, and it shall be an everlasting covenant with them; I will establish them and multiply them, and I will set My sanctuary in their midst forevermore. 27My tabernacle also shall be with them; indeed I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 28The nations also will know that I, the Lord, sanctify Israel, when My sanctuary is in their midst forevermore.” ’ ”

Gilgul (Hebrew for "cycle" or "wheel") is the Kabbalistic concept of soul reincarnation. Rather than being a punishment, it is a purposeful, divine mechanism for Tikkun (spiritual rectification). Souls return to the physical world to complete unfulfilled commandments, learn lessons, and repair past spiritual mistakes. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Core Concepts of the Gilgul Cycle
- Purpose of the Cycle: The primary goal is for the soul to return to its highest, purest state. A soul is typically given multiple lifetimes to achieve this spiritual wholeness before the arrival of the Messianic era. [1, 2]
- Levels of Rectification: Souls can reincarnate through the four realms of creation: inanimate objects (Domeim), plants (Tzomei'ach), animals (Chai), and humans (M'dabeir). A soul must rectify the sins of a previous life, often ascending progressively through these levels. [1]
- Ibbur (Impregnation): Unlike a full reincarnation (Gilgul), Ibbur happens when an already developed living body is temporarily inhabited by the soul of a righteous person or ancestor. This is done to assist the living person in performing good deeds and acquiring merits. [1]
- The Rule of Three: While not an absolute rule, many Kabbalistic sources indicate a soul generally receives a maximum of three primary chances to complete its mission in a human lifetime. [1]
Historical Origins and Perspectives
To dive deeper into the ancient texts, teachings, and stories of transmigration, explore the writings of the Ari on Chabad Kabbalah or discover the broader spiritual context of the cycle on My Jewish Learning. [1]
- Early Roots: While belief in an immortal soul is ancient, the concept of Gilgul is not explicitly found in the written Torah or Talmud. It was formally introduced into Jewish thought by esoteric mystics during the medieval period, most notably in the Bahir and the Zohar. [1, 2, 3, 4]
- The ARI's Teachings: The most extensive and systematic mapping of Gilgul was developed in the 16th century by Rabbi Isaac Luria (the Ari) and later compiled by his disciple, Rabbi Chaim Vital, in texts such as the Sha'ar HaGilgulim (Gate of Reincarnations). [1, 2, 3]
- Modern Acceptance: Gilgul is universally accepted as a core teaching in Hasidic Judaism and is embraced by many modern streams that value Kabbalah. However, some traditional rabbinic authorities—such as the 18th-century Vilna Gaon—were deeply skeptical, preferring a strict focus on Halakha (Jewish law) and Torah study. [1, 2]
1. About Dr. Ian Stevenson
Dr. Ian Stevenson (1918-2007) was a psychiatrist who worked for the University of Virginia School of Medicine for 50 years. He was Chair of the Department of Psychiatry from 1957 to 1967, the Carlson Professor of Psychiatry from 1967 to 2001, and a Research Professor of Psychiatry from 2002 until his death. He was also the founder and Director of the University of Virginia’s Division of Perceptual Studies investigating phenomena such as (1) reincarnation, (2) near-death experiences, (3) out-of-body experiences, and (4) altered states of consciousness and (5) parapsychology. He became internationally recognized for his research into reincarnation by discovering evidence suggesting that memories and physical injuries can be transferred from one lifetime to another. He traveled extensively over a period of 40 years, investigating 3,000 cases of children around the world who recalled having past lives. His meticulous research presented evidence that such children had unusual abilities, illnesses, phobias and philias which could not be explained by the environment or heredity.

Dr. Ian Stevenson’s reincarnation research began in 1960 when he learned of a case in Sri Lanka where a child reported remembering a past life. He thoroughly questioned the child and the child’s parents, including the people whom the child recalled were his parents from his past life. This led to Dr. Stevenson’s conviction that reincarnation was possibly a reality. That same year, Dr. Stevenson published two articles in the Journal of the American Society for Psychical Research about this child who remembered having a past life. The more such cases he discovered, the greater became his ambition to scientifically quantify the possibility of reincarnation – one of the world’s greatest mysteries – which had been virtually ignored by science in the past.
In 1982, Dr. Stevenson co-founded the Society for Scientific Exploration. He authored around 300 papers and 14 books on the subject of reincarnation. His 1966 book, “Twenty Cases Suggestive of Reincarnation,” became a classic in the annals of reincarnation research. In 2003, Dr. Stevenson published his second book on reincarnation, “European Cases of the Reincarnation Type“. In 1997 he published his major classic: the 2,268-page, two-volume book, “Reincarnation and Biology: A Contribution to the Etiology of Birthmarks and Birth Defects,” which focused mostly on deformities and other anomalies children are born with which cannot be traced back to inheritance, prenatal or perinatal (created during birth) occurrences. This monumental classic contains hundreds of pictures presenting the evidence he discovered. It documents 200 cases of children having memories and birthmarks which corresponded with the lives and wounds of deceased people whom these children recalled as having lived in a past-life. In 1997, Dr. Stevenson published a condensed version of this book for the general public entitled, “Where Reincarnation and Biology Intersect.” Dr. Stevenson’s research into reincarnation also became the subject of two important works, “Old Souls: Compelling Evidence from Children Who Remember Past Lives” authored by Tom Shroder (a Washington Post journalist) and “Life Before Life: Children’s Memories of Previous Lives” authored by Dr. Jim B. Tucker (www.jimbtucker.com) a psychiatrist at the University of Virginia. Many people, including skeptics and scholars, agree that the cases presented by Dr. Stevenson offer the best evidence yet for reincarnation.
